Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of Orlando hotels over the years, and honestly? The JW Marriott at Grande Lakes just hits different. You know how most places near the theme parks feel like they’re trying too hard to compete with Disney magic? This one doesn’t need to – it’s got its own thing going on, and it works.

First thing you notice pulling up Central Florida Parkway is how they’ve managed to carve out this little oasis that actually feels removed from the Orlando chaos. I mean, you’re still close enough to hear the fireworks from Universal on a quiet night, but the property itself has this almost resort-within-a-resort vibe. The lobby’s got these soaring ceilings and this sort of understated elegance that doesn’t scream at you – which, after a day of theme park sensory overload, is exactly what you want. The check-in staff actually remembers your name without looking at their computer every two seconds, and the whole process feels smooth without being overly rehearsed.

What really sets this place apart though is the attention to details that matter when you’re actually living there for a few days. The rooms are legitimately spacious – not just “spacious for Orlando” but actually roomy enough that you’re not tripping over suitcases. The beds are that perfect firmness where you sink in just enough, and honestly, the blackout curtains are a game-changer if you’re trying to sleep in after early park mornings. The bathrooms have separate tubs and showers, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many five-star places cheap out on that. Plus, there’s actual water pressure, which I’ve learned not to take for granted in Florida hotels.

The pool area is where this place really shines – it’s this massive lagoon-style setup that winds around with actual sandy beaches in spots. Your kids will think they’ve found some secret water park, but it never feels overcrowded even during busy seasons. The lazy river actually moves at a decent pace, and there are enough quiet corners that adults can find their own space. I’ve spent entire afternoons there and barely noticed the time passing.

Here’s something most people don’t realize until they get there – the golf course is legitimately good, not just resort-decent. Greg Norman designed it, and you can tell someone actually thought about the layout instead of just cramming 18 holes wherever they fit. Even if you’re not a serious golfer, the course restaurant has this killer brunch that locals actually drive over for on weekends.

The resort fee situation is what it is – you know it’s coming, but at least you’re getting actual value with the spa access and the shuttle service to the parks. Speaking of which, the shuttle runs frequently enough that you don’t feel stranded, but having a car gives you more flexibility to hit up some of the great local spots on International Drive without dealing with tourist transport schedules. Parking’s included, which saves you another daily headache.

Bottom line – if you want somewhere that feels like a proper vacation spot and not just a place to crash between park days, this is your move. The 8.6 rating feels about right, maybe even a little conservative.
