HOTEL OVERVIEW
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of Miami Beach hotels, and The Setai is honestly in a league of its own. When you walk into that lobby – which feels more like stepping into some billionaire’s private art collection – you immediately get it. This isn’t trying to be flashy South Beach glitz. The whole place has this understated, almost zen-like vibe that’s pretty rare down here. The design is all clean lines and natural materials, and somehow they’ve managed to make a massive hotel feel intimate. You know what really got me? The way they’ve integrated those infinity pools (there are three of them, by the way) so they seem to just melt into the ocean view.
The location is actually perfect if you want to be in the thick of things but not, well, completely overwhelmed by the chaos. You’re right on Collins Avenue, so South Beach is literally at your doorstep, but you’re far enough north that you’re not dealing with the spring break madness that hits the lower numbers. Lincoln Road is maybe a ten-minute walk south, and honestly, some of the best Cuban food in the city is just a few blocks west on Washington. The beach access is direct – no fighting through crowds or hunting for chairs. I mean, the hotel has its own section with those gorgeous daybeds that probably cost more than my car payment, but whatever, you’re on vacation.
What really sets this place apart though is the attention to detail that you don’t notice until you’ve been there a day or two. The towels are ridiculously soft, the kind where you consider stuffing one in your suitcase (don’t do that). Room service arrives on actual china, not those sad plastic containers most places use. The spa is tucked away on the second floor and feels like a secret – I stumbled across it by accident and ended up booking a massage on the spot. Even little things like how quiet the elevators are, or the fact that the balcony doors actually seal properly so you’re not hearing every conversation from the pool at 2 AM. The staff seems to genuinely know what they’re doing too, which isn’t always a given in Miami Beach where turnover can be pretty high. Valet parking is expensive – brace yourself for that – but honestly, trying to find street parking in this area is like playing the lottery, so just factor it into your budget. This is definitely a splurge kind of place, but if you’re going to do Miami Beach right, The Setai gets you there without feeling like you’re staying in a theme park version of luxury.
