What really gets me about this spot is how it manages to feel both polished and genuinely relaxed at the same time. The grounds are massive – we’re talking 220 acres sprawling across the valley floor – but somehow it never feels overwhelming or stuffy like some five-star places can. You know what I loved? Walking out to the golf course early morning when the mist is still hanging in the oak trees, and you can actually hear the quiet. No traffic noise from the 33, no construction – just birds and maybe someone teeing off in the distance. The spa here is honestly worth the splurge if you’re into that sort of thing (the treatments use local botanicals, which sounds fancy but actually makes a difference), and the pools… well, there are multiple options depending on whether you want family chaos or adult serenity.
The food situation is solid across the board – Olivella restaurant does this Mediterranean thing that works perfectly with local ingredients, and honestly, eating on that terrace at sunset while looking out at the Topa Topa Mountains is pretty hard to beat. I mean, you’re paying resort prices, but it’s not highway robbery like some places. The rooms vary quite a bit depending on which building you’re in – the newer spa suites are gorgeous but pricey, while the original hotel rooms have more character (some might say quirks, but I found them charming). Pro tip: if you’re here during Ojai Music Festival season or around the holidays, book way ahead because locals actually use this place for special occasions, which tells you something. The staff genuinely seems to enjoy working here, which you notice in small ways – they’ll tell you the best hiking trails, or mention that the farmer’s market on Sundays is worth hitting before checkout. It’s about ten minutes from downtown Ojai, so you can easily walk to browse the galleries and shops on Ojai Avenue, but far enough away that you feel like you’re in your own little bubble when you want to be.
