The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain
The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain Overview
First Impressions
Honestly, nothing quite prepares you for the drive up to The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain. You’re winding through this dramatic Sonoran Desert landscape, and suddenly there’s this five-star resort that seems to emerge from the mountainside itself. The architecture — all warm stone and desert hues — feels like it’s been here forever, which is exactly what you want in a place like this. I mean, you’re not coming to Arizona to feel like you could be anywhere else in the world.
The Desert Setting
What strikes you about Marana is how quiet it gets once you’re settled in. The resort sits in the foothills of the Tortolita Mountains, and you know what? The silence here is actually therapeutic. During the day, you’ll spot roadrunners darting between the saguaro cacti, and at night — well, the star gazing is something else entirely. The property sprawls across 850 acres, so even when it’s busy, you never feel crowded. Couples absolutely love it here (I can see why they rated the location 9.5), because there’s this sense of being completely removed from everything without actually being in the middle of nowhere.
The Accommodations
The room I stayed in had floor-to-ceiling windows that framed the desert like a living painting. And those beds everyone raves about? They’re not exaggerating — I actually slept better here than I have in months. The casita-style layout gives you this sense of having your own private retreat, complete with a furnished balcony where you can watch the sunset paint the mountains in impossible shades of pink and orange. The bathrooms are spacious (marble everything, naturally), and the little touches — like the locally-sourced bath products — show they’re paying attention to details.
Activities and Amenities
The spa here deserves its own mention because they’ve really embraced the desert setting in their treatments. I tried the hot stone massage using stones warmed by actual desert heat, and it was transformative in a way that felt authentic rather than gimmicky. For more active pursuits, there’s a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course that winds through the natural desert terrain — it’s challenging but fair, and the views are distracting in the best possible way. The fitness center is well-equipped, and there’s a tennis court if you’re feeling energetic, though honestly, I found myself drawn more to the hiking trails that start right from the property.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both luxurious and grounded. The restaurant sources ingredients locally when possible, and you can taste the difference in everything from the prickly pear margaritas to the mesquite-grilled steaks. The staff seems genuinely invested in making sure you experience the desert properly — they’ll point out the best spots for photography, recommend hiking trails based on your fitness level, and somehow always appear when you need them without hovering. There’s parking right on-site, which might sound mundane but actually matters when you want to explore Tucson (about 45 minutes away) or just make quick trips without dealing with valet every time. It’s the kind of place that makes you understand why people fall in love with the Southwest.
Premium healing resorts offer comprehensive wellness programs featuring spa therapies, meditation retreats, and holistic treatments designed to promote deep relaxation and personal renewal.

We loved almost everything: starting from a very nice room and pet friendly policy, the service (patience, politeness, always ready to inform and help), the facility: the building, the resort with many paths for walks also with dogs. The both pools are very nice. Good bikes available for rides around the area.

Gorgeous setting and grounds. Fabulous spa. Exceptional employees. Cayton’s for casual dining was excellent with a wonderful guitarist on Christmas Eve. Christmas endless buffet was massive but the food was so so. Ignite off the lobby was so so, too. Disappointing. Spa was fantastic!!
