HOTEL OVERVIEW
Okay, so Suncadia Resort is one of those places that actually lives up to the hype – and I say this as someone who’s gotten burned by overpromising mountain resorts before. It’s tucked into the Cascade foothills about 80 miles east of Seattle, and honestly, the drive through Snoqualmie Pass is half the experience. You know you’re getting close when you start seeing those rolling hills dotted with ponderosa pines, and then boom – there’s this sprawling resort that somehow doesn’t feel like it’s trying too hard to be fancy.
The thing about Suncadia is that it gets the balance right between upscale and actually comfortable. I mean, sure, it’s got the requisite spa and golf courses (two of them, actually), but it doesn’t have that stuffy country club vibe that makes you feel like you need to whisper in the lobby. The main lodge has this great stone fireplace that’s usually crackling away, and the whole place smells like cedar and coffee – which, let me tell you, is way better than the generic vanilla candle situation you get at most chain hotels. The rooms are solid four-star quality without being over-the-top; think exposed beams, decent square footage, and those little touches like heated bathroom floors that you don’t expect but definitely appreciate when it’s 30 degrees outside.
What really sets this place apart though is how it works for different kinds of trips. Families love it because there’s actually stuff for kids to do (the adventure center, hiking trails that aren’t too intense, that sort of thing), but it’s not overrun with screaming toddlers either. Couples come for the romantic mountain retreat thing, and it delivers – especially if you snag one of the fireplace suites. The restaurant scene is better than you’d expect for being in the middle of nowhere; the Fifty-6° restaurant actually sources locally and doesn’t just phone it in with generic “mountain cuisine.” Pro tip: if you’re there in winter, the cross-country skiing is fantastic, and way less crowded than the downhill spots. Summer’s when it gets busy – everyone’s there for the golf and hiking – but even then it doesn’t feel packed because the property is huge. The only real downside is that you’re pretty committed to staying on-site for meals since Cle Elum isn’t exactly a dining destination, but honestly? After a day of hiking or skiing, you probably don’t want to drive anywhere anyway. It’s the kind of place where you can actually unplug for a few days without feeling like you’re roughing it.

The views, beds, bedding, robes, pool temperature and resort shuttle were all great. Room was very clean. I like the new renovations. Had a great meal at Swiftwater restaurant, expensive but worth it.
We also had a pretty amazing view for the Aurora!!!
