Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay – you know how some resort names sound way fancier than they actually are? But this place actually delivers on that whole “waterfront resort” promise. It sits right on the Choptank River, and I mean RIGHT on it – you can literally watch boats drift by from the lobby windows while you’re checking in.
The location is what really makes this place work. Cambridge isn’t exactly a bustling metropolis (which is kind of the point), but you’re still close enough to decent restaurants if you want to venture beyond the hotel dining. The golf course here is legit – I’m not much of a golfer myself, but I watched plenty of people tee off from the waterfront holes, and honestly, even if you’re terrible at golf, those views make it worth the frustration. The spa surprised me too – it’s not huge, but they know what they’re doing, and after a day of driving around the Eastern Shore, a massage there hits different. The marina aspect isn’t just for show either; you’ll see everything from little fishing boats to some seriously impressive yachts pulling up throughout the day.
What I appreciated most was how the place feels relaxed without being sloppy. The rooms are solid (nothing groundbreaking, but comfortable with decent water pressure), and the staff actually seems to know the area – they gave me better dinner recommendations than Google did. The pool area gets busy during summer weekends, fair warning, but if you time it right in the early morning or late afternoon, it’s pretty peaceful. Parking is easy, which sounds boring but trust me, you’ll appreciate it. The 8.3 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but everything works the way it should, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want. If you’re looking for that classic Chesapeake Bay experience without roughing it in some sketchy waterfront motel, this is your spot.
