You know what struck me first about Purity at Lake Vembanad? It’s actually tucked away in this quiet spot east of the Muhamma Police Station – and I mean that as a compliment. Most people racing through Alleppey miss this area entirely, but honestly, that’s exactly why it works so well. The moment you pull up (parking’s no issue, by the way), you realize you’ve found something that feels more like a well-kept secret than your typical lakeside resort.

The property sits right on Lake Vembanad, and I’m talking proper waterfront here – not one of those places where you need binoculars to see the water. The backwater views are genuinely stunning, especially in the early morning when the mist rolls off the lake and everything goes quiet except for the occasional splash of a kingfisher. What really got me though was how they’ve managed to keep that authentic Kerala feel without skimping on comfort. The rooms are spacious (actually spacious, not hotel-brochure spacious), and the traditional architecture doesn’t feel forced or touristy – it just fits. The staff seemed to know the area inside and out, which matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to figure out the best time to catch the local fishermen heading out or where to find decent toddy nearby.

Here’s the thing about staying in Muhamma versus central Alleppey – you’re trading some of the hustle and bustle for genuine tranquility, and most days that feels like a pretty good deal. The location means you can still hit the main backwater routes (the houseboat pickup points are maybe 15 minutes away), but you come back to actual peace and quiet. I mean, the only sounds at night are water lapping and maybe some distant temple music if there’s a festival happening. The food situation is solid too – they do proper Kerala cuisine, not the watered-down version you sometimes get at bigger resorts. That said, if you’re someone who needs to be in the thick of things constantly, this might feel a bit removed. But honestly? After a day of navigating crowded boat tours and busy markets, sliding into that lakeside calm feels pretty perfect. The 8.5 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be everything to everyone, but what it does, it does really well.

This property is straight out of a heaven, it was a perfect stay . One stormy afternoon we were stuck due to flight cancellations and we wanted to stay some where and then we found purity . Big shout out to Manager Mr Sujith , reception representative Mary and chef Mr Lijo they made us feel like king and queen during our stay at purity. The food and service is one of the best India , and we travel a lot.

The hotel is a work of art - a church creatively renovated with stunning modern design contrasted by historical artefacts and paintings. The breakfast and dinner was great and the staff were incredibly helpful - waiting up until 1am for our late arrival and upgrading our room. The boat ride to the other side of the lake and the narrow backwaters was well worth the money - the driver founds us lots of bird and wiildlife to photograph (kingfishers, an otter etc).

If Kearala is God's own country, Purity@lake Vembanad is God's own retreat ! We spent 2 nights 3 days and we definitely will come back ! The staff was so sweet and accomodating, We had complementary one yoga session, one canoe tour with the sweetest fisherman (he took time to take us to his fish net and show us how it operates) and everyday a "gouter" in the afternoon.
The chef was really very professional and nice (I had one of the best biryani in my life!)
Everywhere you set your eyes in the hotel it is only beautiful things, decor and art.
Massage was lovely.
End your trip in Kerala with Purity is the best treat you can give yourself !

We really enjoyed our stay. I love how art was integrated into the hotel.
Amazing food. Both breakfast and dinner were amazing.
Everyone is very helpful. People are friendly and caring.
So many activities to attend and the hotel arranges everything for you.
