You know what surprised me most about Olde Bangalore Resort? It’s actually nothing like Bangalore proper – which is exactly the point. Tucked away in Tarabanahalli (yeah, I had to ask the driver to repeat that three times), this place sits about 45 minutes from the chaos of the city, and honestly, those 45 minutes make all the difference. The moment you pull through their gates, there’s this immediate shift from honking rickshaws to… well, birds chirping. I mean, actual birds, not the urban crows you’re used to in the city center.

The resort has that colonial-meets-wellness vibe down pretty well – think whitewashed buildings with terracotta roof tiles, but then you’ve got this surprisingly modern spa complex that doesn’t feel out of place somehow. What I really appreciated was how they’ve kept the grounds spacious without making you feel like you need a golf cart to get around. The pool area is where most people end up gravitating toward in the afternoons, and it’s got these massive old trees providing natural shade (crucial during the summer months, trust me). The wellness center is legit too – not just some basic massage rooms they slapped the word “spa” on. They’ve got proper Ayurvedic treatments, and the therapists actually seem to know what they’re doing rather than just going through the motions.

Now, being out in Devanahalli does mean you’re not walking to street food stalls or hopping between cafes, but that’s sort of the trade-off you make. The resort’s restaurant is solid – they do a good job with both local Karnataka dishes and the usual international stuff, though I’d say stick with the South Indian options since that’s clearly where their kitchen shines. Check-in was smooth enough, parking is never an issue (which, if you’ve driven in Bangalore, you’ll appreciate), and the rooms are what you’d expect from a five-star place. The 8.0 rating feels about right – it’s definitely a quality property, just not groundbreaking. What it does well is give you that retreat feeling without having to drive three hours into the hills. Perfect if you’ve got a few days and want to decompress from the city without the hassle of a major travel day.
