HOTEL OVERVIEW

Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of beach resorts in the Andamans, and Munjoh Ocean Resort on Beach 5 really surprised me. You know how Havelock Island can be hit or miss with accommodations? Well, this place actually gets it right. The moment you walk in, there’s this immediate sense that someone put real thought into the design – it’s not trying too hard to be fancy, but everything feels intentional and well-crafted.

What really sets Munjoh apart is its position on Beach 5, which honestly most tourists skip because they’re all rushing to Radhanagar. Big mistake on their part, good news for you. This stretch is way quieter, and the resort takes full advantage of that with these gorgeous pavilion-style rooms that open right onto the sand. I mean, you’re literally steps from the water, but somehow the sound isn’t overwhelming at night – they’ve positioned everything just right. The staff here actually knows the island inside and out too, which is rarer than you’d think. They’ll point you toward the best snorkeling spots that aren’t crawling with day-trippers, and their restaurant serves this incredible local fish curry that I’m still thinking about months later.

Here’s the thing though – it’s definitely a 5-star property with 5-star prices, and while the 8.1 rating is pretty solid, you can tell where they cut some corners. The wifi can be spotty (though honestly, that might be a blessing), and during peak season the beach can get surprisingly busy with guests from other properties wandering over. But the morning hours? Pure magic. I’d wake up around 6:30 and have this incredible stretch of coastline basically to myself, with just the sound of waves and maybe one or two locals heading out for their morning walk. The resort’s spa is tucked back in the trees and feels genuinely peaceful – not just Instagram-peaceful, you know? And here’s a practical tip: if you’re planning to explore other beaches, the resort can arrange transport, but honestly the local auto-rickshaw drivers who hang out near the main road are just as reliable and way cheaper. Munjoh works best if you’re looking for that balance between luxury and actually experiencing Havelock as it really is, rather than being completely insulated from the island. It’s polished enough to feel special, but grounded enough that you’re not stuck in some artificial bubble.

We spent two nights at Munjoh Resorts. I’m 48, and my dad is 78. I mentioned our ages to emphasize that our perspective is that of a middle-aged and an elderly man.

We both had a great time. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. The location is fantastic, and the property is well-maintained with a unique and quirky décor. The rooms are spacious (huge is probably a more appropriate word), and the bathrooms are equally large. Our room even had a private pool at the back.

The staffs were all polite and helpful. Most of them were young locals who may not have much experience, but they made up for it with their friendly and courteous behavior.

P.S. Rent a scooter to explore the area and make the most of your stay.
