HOTEL OVERVIEW

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to The Busena Terrace – I mean, you see so many “luxury” hotels in Okinawa that promise the world but feel like generic resorts. But this place actually delivers on that 5-star promise, and I get why it’s sitting at a 9.1 rating.

The location on the Kise Peninsula is what really sets it apart from everything else in Nago. You’re not dealing with the crowds of central Naha, but you’re also not stuck in the middle of nowhere. The hotel sits right on this gorgeous stretch of private beach where the water is that impossible shade of turquoise you think they’ve photoshopped until you see it yourself. What I loved is that you can walk along the shoreline in the early morning – around 7 AM before the day-trippers arrive – and it feels like you have the entire coast to yourself. The staff actually told me the best snorkeling spots are just a short swim from the beach, and they weren’t lying. I saw more tropical fish in twenty minutes than I did during an entire boat tour elsewhere on the island.

The rooms themselves feel authentically Okinawan without being kitschy about it. Mine had this massive balcony overlooking the East China Sea, and you know what really got me? The sound of the waves was loud enough to be soothing but not so overwhelming that you can’t sleep with the windows open. The air conditioning is whisper-quiet too, which honestly matters more than you’d think in Okinawa’s humidity. Check-in was surprisingly smooth – they had someone who spoke perfect English, which isn’t always a given even at nicer places in Japan. Parking is free and abundant, thank god, because some of the hotels in this area charge ridiculous fees or make you park halfway down the peninsula.

I’ll be straight with you though – this isn’t a budget option, and it shows in ways both good and slightly pretentious. The restaurants are excellent (try the teppanyaki place if you can get a reservation), but you’re paying Tokyo prices for dinner. The spa treatments are incredible, especially if you book the ocean-view massage rooms, but again, not cheap. What I really appreciated was that they didn’t try to nickel and dime you for everything else – WiFi is fast and free, the beach equipment doesn’t cost extra, and they actually give you decent-sized bottles of water instead of those tiny ones that disappear in five minutes.

If you’re coming during cherry blossom season or Golden Week, book way ahead because this place fills up with Japanese families who clearly know something the rest of us are just figuring out. The best time to visit is probably late September or early October when the weather’s still perfect but the summer crowds have thinned out. You’ll actually be able to enjoy that stunning infinity pool without fighting for a chair, and the sunset views from the terrace bar are absolutely worth the splurge on overpriced cocktails.

Ample choice of restaurants to meet all kinds of food experience, the fish restaurant being one of the best. Several activities on offer at different levels , you never get boring walking trough the resort. The sandy and clean beach was easily acceptable and very tidy every day. Before sleeping, the beds were prepared together with a brief on next days weather and a small chocolate completed the experience;-)

What could be improved: Nothing, everything was close to perfect.

The view is incredible! The staff are nice and ready to help anytime.

What could be improved: The breakfast was a little crowded and we had to wait for the table for a while. But maybe because it was weekend that day.

Huge bedroom, strong aircon, comfortable bed, luxurious linens. Expansive public spaces.
I had delightful swims daily in the South China Sea in front of the hotel.Calm.Occasional fish to be seen. Beach chairs and umbrellas available -free for hotel guests.
There is a huge outdoor pool and a huge (heated)indoor pool.
I ate exclusively in the buffet restaurant which overlooks the sea . Over 4 days, three meals a day, there was always enough variety to make eating there a pleasure. There are several specialty restaurants as well. Wifi signal was strong except during heavy downpours. Fast elevators .Reception was adequately staffed .Never saw a line there.

What could be improved: "Gym" has no weights or strength training machine, only 4-5 treadmills which in 4 days I never saw anyone use, probably because the scenic path between the hotel and beach is a better place to exercise.
Restaurants had cow milk but no soy milk, which surprised me as I thought most Asians were lactose intolerant.
I rented a bike from the hotel. Not much to see in the area.

What could be improved: The bed was a bit uncomfortable, too hard.
The teppanyaki was way overpriced in my opinion. We payed ¥60,000 for 2 people, the food was delicious but I felt like we could have been served more food for that price.

The hotel is located on a beautiful cape with unbelievable sea views. The grounds include a private beach with protected swimming area. Excellent breakfast quality with both western and Japanese options. The service was friendly and attentive all around.

Everything, from the overall quality to the attention to detail, this is a place to let yourself go. Special thanks to the staff, the effort they’re making to make yourself comfortable is not normal What could be improved: Maybe the fact that you need sometimes to wait for breakfast/dinner, but it’s a minor complaint, you should never be in a rush...
