HOTEL OVERVIEW

You know what caught me off guard about the Hilton Nagasaki? It’s actually tucked up on this hill in Onouemachi, which honestly gives you these incredible views over the harbor that most hotels in the city center just can’t match. I mean, you’re looking down at the whole spread of Nagasaki Bay from your room – and trust me, when the sun sets behind those mountains across the water, you’ll understand why this place gets a 9.1 rating.

The thing is, being up on the hill means you’re about a 10-minute walk down to the main action around Chinatown and the Peace Park area. Some people might see that as a drawback, but I actually loved it – you get this sense of being above it all (literally), and the walk down through the narrow streets gives you a real feel for how this city is built into the hillsides. Plus, there’s a shuttle that runs pretty regularly if you’re not up for the climb back. The front desk staff – and this is something I noticed right at check-in – they actually know the bus schedules and will tell you exactly when to catch the streetcar to get to specific spots like Glover Garden or the atomic bomb museum. That kind of local knowledge makes a difference.

What really sets this place apart though is how they’ve designed it to work with Nagasaki’s unique geography. The lobby sits on what feels like the 5th floor because of how the building steps down the hillside, and honestly, walking in there for the first time is pretty impressive – floor-to-ceiling windows framing the whole city below. The rooms themselves are spacious by Japanese standards (I had plenty of space to actually open my suitcase fully, which… if you’ve stayed in Tokyo, you know what I mean), and the bathrooms have these deep tubs that are perfect after a day of walking around the steep streets down in the city. I stayed here in early November, and the heating was spot-on – not too dry like some hotels crank it. One small thing that bugged me was the elevator wait times during the morning rush, but that’s pretty minor considering everything else works so smoothly. The breakfast buffet has this mix of international stuff and local Nagasaki specialties – they do this really good champon that’s way better than what you’ll find at most tourist spots downtown. If you’re someone who appreciates being a little removed from the hustle but still connected to everything that matters, this is your spot.

What can I say, we loved absolutely everything about this hotel, start with it’s literally 50 yards from Nagasaki Station and a large shopping mall so lots of food, the bedroom was amazing, the view from our window was awesome, the breakfast was the best in Japan so far, the staff were so nice we wanted to take them home with us and very importantly, it’s a very quiet hotel where you can simply relax. We will be back for sure!

Right by the station in a modern development area.

What could be improved: Not much in the immediate vicinity, but that was not a problem for us

- very big room
- the room and all the facilities were extremely aesthetically designed
- i liked that the sink was on the outside (but close to) the bathroom as it allowed easier access for hand washing and teeth brushing

What could be improved: - the tv turned on every time i walked back into the room after closing it which was super annoying. very minor inconvenience though
- the gym was kinda mid given how fancy the hotel was, didn't have that much equipment in it

The customer service was top-notch. Yuki, at the front desk, was especially very accommodative and friendly helping to sort out any queries that we had as well as her other colleagues at the front desk. The location is excellent located next to the Nagasaki JR train station, bus station, tram which can get you to any part of Nagasaki. The Amu Plaza shopping mall is also in very close proximity. The view from my hotel room overlooking the sea side was very ambient. My best part of the hotel stay was the hot bath and sauna that were very well maintained, demure and relaxing. Thanks Hilton Nagasaki for a lovely stay!

What could be improved: Nothing other than minor language barrier issues but not too significant.

What could be improved: The only slightly negative thing I could say is that it did not have a laundry. We paid to have it done which, for a personalised service was obviously expensive.

Beautiful design, friendly staff, good position. Food and drinks delicious. Spacious and modern but with traditional feel. Views to harbour and hills very dpecial

What could be improved: Only thing was the mirror light above wash basin wouldn’t turn off and gave off too much light when sleeping

Great location across the road from the station. Mostly covered walkway takes you to level 2 to reception. Staff were excellent and very helpful. Room is very large and very modern. Great bathroom and a very comfy bed. Restaurant has good food though it is a little bit expensive. There are better options just a short tram ride in a variety of Nagasaki suburbs. Very quiet hotel and did I say the staff were great? Nagasaki is a great city to visit, and the Hilton is the perfect location.

What could be improved: Not much as the room was just about perfect. Perhaps a laundry on site rather than an expensive laundry service. There are laundromats nearby though.
