HOTEL OVERVIEW

Honestly, when you first walk into the Imperial Hotel Tokyo, you’re hit with this sense of… I don’t know, gravitas? The lobby’s got these massive columns and this whole Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired vibe that makes you feel like you’re stepping into a piece of history. Which, I mean, you kind of are – this place has been hosting everyone from Einstein to Marilyn Monroe since 1890, though the current building is from the ’70s.

What really gets me about the Imperial is how it manages to feel both grand and approachable at the same time. The staff – and I’m talking everyone from the concierge to the person cleaning the elevators – they’ve got this quiet professionalism that’s distinctly Japanese. You know what I mean? They anticipate what you need before you even ask. I stayed there during cherry blossom season (which, fair warning, is absolute chaos in Tokyo), and somehow they made everything feel effortless despite the city being packed with tourists. The rooms are spacious by Tokyo standards, with these huge windows that actually open – rare in modern hotels. If you’re on the Imperial Palace side, you’re looking out over the East Gardens, which honestly beats any TV channel.

The location is what really sells it for me, though. You’re literally across from the Imperial Palace grounds, so you can duck into those gardens whenever the city gets overwhelming. Ginza’s a five-minute walk if you want to blow your budget on department stores, and you’re close enough to Tokyo Station that getting anywhere is pretty straightforward. But here’s the thing nobody mentions – the hotel sits right between the business district and the tourist areas, so depending on the time of day, you get this interesting mix of salarymen and families with cameras. The taxi drivers all know exactly where it is, which saves you from trying to pronounce Japanese addresses at 2 AM. The only downside? Well, you’re paying Imperial prices, and the nearby restaurants can be pretty formal. Sometimes you just want to grab a quick bite without putting on real pants, you know? But there’s a decent convenience store about two blocks away on Harumi-dori if you need late-night snacks or forgot to pack something essential.

Location was the best, breakfast was wonderful, staff is outstanding, beautiful and well appointed rooms... again staff, rooms and facilities were the finest we've ever experienced... such a beautiful hotel, everything exceeded our expectations, especially the people, so respectful, polite and helpful. Luxury without pretense...

Amazing location and exceptional service all around.

What could be improved: Although sufficient, the rooms are on the smaller side.

What could be improved: Buffer breakfast is not great:
1. Depending on occupancy you arrive to be given a number and be told perhaps a 30 minute wait. Ok first world problem, but in a 5* start hotel. There are alternatives but please.
2. Buffet breakfast fine not great. Poor or no cold meats. Ham and Sausages rubbish. Although croissants absolutely top notch.
Summary - disappointed by buffet breakfast.

The Imperial Hotel Tokyo is in a great location with many attractions such as the Imperial Palace near by shopping and world class restaurants within close proximity.
Finally, the hotel has so many bars and restaurants from the bars and Cafes on the ground floor to the lounge area and restaurants on the 17th floor.
I must point out the hotel serves a lovely Japanese breakfast.
