THE AOYAMA GRAND HOTEL

107-0061 Tokyo-to, Minato-ku Kitaaoyama 2-14-4, Japan
HOTEL OVERVIEW
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to The Aoyama Grand Hotel – the entrance is actually pretty understated for a five-star place, tucked away on this quiet side street in Kitaaoyama. But you know what? That’s exactly what makes it special. While everyone’s fighting crowds at the bigger hotels near Shibuya, you’re literally a five-minute walk from Omotesando Hills and all those designer boutiques, but without any of the chaos.
The lobby hit me right away – there’s this subtle incense thing going on (not overpowering, just… nice) and the staff genuinely seemed happy to see me, not that practiced hotel smile you usually get. I mean, the concierge actually remembered my name the next morning, which never happens. My room was on the seventh floor facing north, and I could see straight down to the tree-lined streets where all the galleries are. The bed was ridiculous – like sleeping on a cloud, but not one of those too-soft situations where you feel like you’re sinking. And here’s something I really appreciated: the blackout curtains actually worked. Tokyo can be bright at night with all the neon, but I slept like a baby.
What really got me though was how they handle the little things. The bathroom had this rainfall shower that felt like a spa treatment, and they stock these amazing toiletries from some local brand I’d never heard of but definitely looked up later. Room service was fast – I ordered late one night after walking around Harajuku all day, and it showed up in maybe twenty minutes, still hot. The restaurant downstairs does this incredible kaiseki dinner, but honestly, I loved just grabbing coffee there in the mornings and watching the neighborhood wake up through those big windows. You’ll see businesspeople heading to their offices, artists wandering to their studios, and occasionally some fashion blogger doing a shoot by the fountain across the street. The whole Aoyama area has this creative energy that’s hard to describe – it’s sophisticated but not stuffy, you know? And being right in the middle of it while having this calm, luxurious base to come back to… well, it just made the whole Tokyo experience feel more authentic somehow. Plus, parking was surprisingly easy if you’re renting a car, which is rare in this part of the city.

Grand Aoyama’s ambience and vibes make us feel at home. The rooms are so modern and aesthetically pleasing, decorated with curated artwork from Japanese artist. Breakfast is fairly limited but of high quality except for the pho (having come from Australia, we know bad or good pho). View from our rooms is stunning as we can see Tokyo Skytree and...
