The hotel serves as an ideal retreat from urban life, situated in one of Japan’s most beloved resort areas, known for its refreshing mountain climate and lush greenery. Karuizawa’s reputation as a summer retreat dates back to the late 19th century when it became popular among foreign diplomats and affluent Japanese citizens seeking respite from Tokyo’s summer heat, a tradition that the Karuizawa Prince Hotel East continues to honor with its refined hospitality. The Karuizawa Prince Hotel East offers guests an authentic Japanese resort experience while providing all the modern amenities expected of a high-caliber establishment. From its thoughtfully designed rooms that blend contemporary comfort with traditional Japanese aesthetics to its attentive staff who embody the spirit of omotenashi (Japanese hospitality), every aspect of the hotel contributes to its well-deserved reputation. The property benefits from its strategic location near the Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza, one of Japan’s largest outlet malls, making it convenient for guests who enjoy retail therapy. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the hotel’s proximity to the area’s natural wonders, including the nearby Shiraito Falls and the picturesque hiking trails of Mount Asama. During winter months, the region transforms into a winter wonderland, with easy access to ski slopes that accommodate both beginners and seasoned skiers, while autumn brings spectacular foliage that attracts visitors from across Japan and around the world. What truly distinguishes the Karuizawa Prince Hotel East is its seamless integration with the stunning natural environment of the Japanese Alps. The hotel’s design emphasizes harmony with nature, featuring large windows that frame the magnificent mountain vistas and seasonal landscapes. Guests can experience the therapeutic benefits of traditional Japanese onsen (hot springs) after a day of exploration, allowing them to immerse themselves in an authentic cultural ritual while soothing both body and mind. The culinary offerings at the hotel showcase the best of local Nagano cuisine, with seasonal ingredients harvested from the fertile mountain region prepared with both traditional and innovative techniques. Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, a family vacation, or a corporate retreat, the Karuizawa Prince Hotel East provides a tranquil yet sophisticated setting that exemplifies the perfect balance between Japan’s natural beauty and its renowned hospitality. With its exceptional location, outstanding service reflected in its 8.4 rating, and the perfect blend of Japanese tradition and modern luxury, the Karuizawa Prince Hotel East offers an unforgettable gateway to experiencing the unique charm of rural Japan while enjoying the comforts of a premier 4-star accommodation.

What could be improved: the ski resort is small. suitable for beginner, kids. for skiers who want to explore many trails, you should find other resorts.

The Prince property is made up of multiple hotels, and we were lucky to book this hotel as it tied in with our skiing plans. Onsen was great, and the room was spacious for 2 large luggage to be opened at the same time.

What could be improved: There is an onsen property tax to be paid onsite, which i wasn't aware of. Breakfast service was slightly slow but that's because we were a big group of 18 pax.

Great location on the mountain so my family could ski in and ski out. The resort so it is expensive because its 20m from the chair lift. we stayed for 3 nights but it was early in December so snow wasn't great. We saved money by going to local food court, wow the food in the resort was expensive.

What could be improved: Cost of food in the restaurants.

Nice lounge, onsen, view of ski, walking distance to ski slope, breakfast was good

What could be improved: Lights from the ski slope shone into our room very early

It was a quaint little place with cabins spread out so there was privacy. The cabin was large and spacious. The staff were helpful and already ready to provide transport to and from your cabin.

What could be improved: the ceiling and beams was a bit low so I hit my head a couple of times at the living area.

Breakfast is excellent...
