HOTEL OVERVIEW

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the Seawood Hotel on Kurima Island – I mean, it’s this tiny speck connected to Miyako by a bridge that feels like it goes on forever. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you’re not trying too hard to find them.

The hotel sits right on this gorgeous stretch of coastline where the water is so impossibly blue it almost hurts your eyes. What really got me though was how quiet everything felt once I stepped inside. You’re technically still close to the main island (maybe 15 minutes back to Hirara if you need anything), but it feels like you’ve escaped to your own private corner of Okinawa. The rooms face the ocean, and I’m not talking about some distant glimpse – you wake up to waves literally lapping at the rocks below. The sound is incredible at night, actually… sort of this gentle whooshing that’s way better than any white noise machine.

The staff here gets it, you know? They’re not hovering, but they genuinely seem to care about making sure you’re settled. Check-in was smooth (thank god, because I was exhausted from the flight connections), and they actually gave me useful local tips – like where to catch the best sunset views from the bridge, and which convenience store back in Shimoji has the good bento boxes. The hotel restaurant is solid, though honestly, I found myself driving back to the main island for dinner most nights just because I wanted to explore. Parking was never an issue, which is saying something during peak season. The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable – not fancy, but everything works and the beds are actually good. Air conditioning runs quiet, which matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to sleep with the windows open for that ocean breeze. I did notice the WiFi gets a bit spotty during busy hours, but honestly, isn’t that kind of the point of being out here? There’s something refreshing about being just disconnected enough to actually relax, but not so cut off that you panic about missing important messages. The 9.3 rating makes sense once you’ve been here – it’s not trying to be some flashy resort with a million amenities, but what it does, it does really well.

For us, the location is definitely one of the highlights – remote, on a small, quiet island. The beach is beautiful with large white sand and clear water, perfect for relaxing and swimming.

The staff are friendly and ready to help immediately. Even though some of them don’t speak English, they understand what you're asking and are eager to assist.

The breakfast offers a lot of choices, so it’s easy to find something you like to eat. At lunch, we ate the best ramen we've had in Japan at their restaurant – it was absolutely delicious!

A tip for travellers: you need a car to get to the resort and move around. There are just a few other restaurants and cafés on the island, but for shopping and more dining options, you’ll need to go to Miyako Island. The resort is like a big village with one hotel (the farthest spot from the beach and restaurant) and many villas. Walking between locations can take about 10-15 minutes. If you cannot walk, there's no problem; they have carts to carry you around. All you have to do is call reception to ask for a cart, and they arrive immediately. There are also regular buses for hotel guests who attend breakfast and dinner.

We had a wonderful experience and loved the place. I really hope they take customer feedback into account and address the maintenance and cleanliness issues to justify its luxury price tag.

What could be improved: The resort is beautiful and the area is generally clean. However, being a luxury accommodation, we had higher expectations when it came to attention to detail. In our villa, the dust hadn't been properly cleaned. Around the resort, we noticed that some villas were damaged and not repaired, some walls were dirty and not cleaned, and the umbrellas at the main pool were broken. The common areas weren't as clean as they should be, which gave an overall impression of neglect. This is not acceptable for the prices they charge.

What could be improved: The beds were too firm. Needs pillow top or egg crate added for comfort. The pillows were not firm at all and provided little support. I did not rest peacefully but the other amenities greatly compensated, especially being able to soak in the lovely tub for which they offer extra toiletries like salts and bombs.

2泊3日滞在しました。
フロントが24時間対応、ホテル敷地内送迎、どれもこれも大変満足で宮古島にもう一度来た時はまた泊まりたいです。お部屋もお風呂場も全部広くスタッフさんも皆さんもご親切に対応してくださり本当に最高でした。新婚旅行の目的で泊まりましたが素敵な思い出になりました。

部屋からの景色が最高。朝食も種類が世界の一流ホテルと比べても負けないレベルの豊富さ。またグレープフルーツくり抜きジュースとかオーガニックコーヒーとかちょっと気が利いたメニューがあるのも素晴らしい。使わなかったがジムも素晴らしい設備と景色を楽しめる。バスタブは無茶苦茶大きくて、二人でもゆったり入れる。ベッドも寝心地が良い。周囲に何もないので静かなのも良い。

What could be improved: ほとんど不満は無いのだけどお風呂に窓もあると良かった。ヴィラはあるのかもしれない。また、車は施設内は運転できず、カートを頼むのだけど、すぐに来るから問題はないが、車で乗り付けられるともっと良かった。
