FAV LUX Nagasaki

850-0921 Nagasaki, Nagasaki, Matsugaemachi 3-10, Japan
HOTEL OVERVIEW
I’ll be honest – when I first walked into FAV LUX Nagasaki, I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior. The building sits quietly on Matsugaemachi, and you might actually walk past it if you’re not paying attention. But step inside and, well, it’s like they saved all the good stuff for the guests who actually made the effort to find them.
The lobby has this understated elegance that feels very Japanese – clean lines, natural materials, none of that over-the-top glitz you sometimes get with four-star places. What really caught my attention though was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the neighborhood. When I asked about getting to Glover Garden (which is honestly just a pleasant 10-minute walk), the front desk person didn’t just point me in the right direction – they mentioned which entrance has fewer crowds in the morning and warned me about the construction on the main path. That’s the kind of local insight you can’t Google.
The rooms are what I’d call “thoughtfully modern” – you know what I mean? Everything works perfectly, the bed is seriously comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and there’s actually enough space to spread out your stuff without playing Tetris with your luggage. The bathrooms deserve a mention too – proper Japanese attention to detail with fixtures that feel substantial, not flimsy. My room faced toward the harbor area, and while you can’t see much water through the urban landscape, there’s something nice about knowing it’s there. The soundproofing is excellent, which matters because Matsugaemachi can get a bit lively in the evenings – though honestly, it’s more charming local chatter than rowdy tourist noise.
What strikes me most about this place is how it feels like it belongs in Nagasaki rather than just being dropped there. The breakfast (when I managed to wake up early enough) features local ingredients alongside the standard international options, and the coffee is actually good – not just hotel-adequate. The location puts you within easy walking distance of the peace memorials and Chinatown, but you’re also close enough to the tram lines that getting around the city is effortless. I mean, the Matsugae-machi stop is literally around the corner.
Staff-wise, they hit that sweet spot between attentive and not hovering. Check-in was smooth, they held my bags without fuss when I arrived early, and when I needed restaurant recommendations beyond the usual tourist spots, they steered me toward a tiny ramen place that turned out to be incredible (though I never would have found it on my own). With an 8.9 rating, you’re getting exactly what you’d expect – solid reliability with some genuinely nice touches. It’s not the kind of place that tries to wow you with flashy amenities, but rather the kind where everything just works well, which honestly is more valuable when you’re trying to explore a city like Nagasaki.

Annique from Canada (25 December 2024)
New, very clean rooms thoughtfully laid out with comfortable beds and decent pillows (for a hotel). Everything we needed in the kitchenette for our party of 5, except for a peeler which would hav been a nice-to-have. Layout of bathroom, which is a normal Japanese layout of separating toilet and shower, helped manage bathroom time for all of us...

FABULOUS, clean and so comfortable. Our room was well equipped with a laundry and kitchenette. The location is just around the corner from Glover Garden, Oura Cathedral and the fun Glover Street with souvenir shops and yummy local treats (Castella Cakes). Easy walk to Chinatown. Easy walk to the Bus Stop and Tram Stops to travel to other areas of...
Ganapathy from Australia (14 March 2025)
A smart property. Luggage storage arrangements, self check in, low overhead operating model. Clever use of technology in many facets. Great location close to tram and not a long walk to Chinatown. What could be improved: Breakfast was disappointing after our previous hotel in Fukuoka. Yet it was practical. A couple of healthy options would have...
Ulrich from Germany (8 March 2025)
The location was good , it was modern and very spaciousness furnished. A large and very comfortable bed was in our rooms well. The staff was very flexible and helpful.
What could be improved: The breakfast was small (just one drink and one sandwich). Next time I would opt out of breakfast.
Shiho from United States (8 March 2025)
The room was modern and had everything we needed. The staff was super efficient and friendly. They have a parking space and also the tram station is just around the corner. Everything was great with this hotel.
Sam from Australia (20 February 2025)
The room was fantastic and spacious, beds and pillows were very comfortable and the shower was also very good What could be improved: I didn't like that the breakfast was not very substantial and I was asked to pay to have a different type of milk for my complementary coffee, which I found very tight after we paid for an expensive hotel. most of...

Location is great, near Glover garden. Price point is excellent and the room is quite spacious. Parking is available for a fee and just a stone throw away. There is also a washing machine at the bathroom area.
What could be improved: Nothing at all.
