Hotel Santa Cruz Plaza

Plaza De Armas 286, 3130000 Santa Cruz, Chile
HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what struck me first about Hotel Santa Cruz Plaza? It’s literally sitting right on the Plaza de Armas, which means you’re waking up to the heart of this charming wine country town. I mean, when they say “plaza view,” they actually mean it – not some courtyard three blocks away like half the places I’ve stayed.
The building itself has this solid, traditional feel that fits perfectly with Santa Cruz’s colonial vibe, but honestly, the real magic happens when you step inside. The lobby’s got these beautiful Chilean touches – not overdone, just enough to remind you where you are. What I appreciated most was how the staff actually seemed to know the area. When I asked about getting to the nearby vineyards (because let’s be real, that’s why most people come here), they didn’t just hand me a generic brochure. They told me which colectivos to catch and even mentioned that Casa Silva does walk-in tastings if you show up before 4 PM – the kind of insider info you don’t get from Google.
The rooms are well, they’re what you’d expect from a proper 5-star place, but with personality. Mine had this gorgeous view of the plaza’s jacaranda trees, and I could actually hear the church bells from San Francisco – which sounds romantic until you realize they chime every hour. Still, there’s something pretty special about having your morning coffee while watching the town wake up below. The beds are seriously comfortable too, which matters more than you’d think after a day of wine tasting and walking around. Parking was surprisingly easy – they’ve got their own garage, which is a godsend because finding street parking around the plaza can be a nightmare, especially during harvest season.
What really sets this place apart is how it connects you to Santa Cruz itself. You’re literally steps from the best restaurants on the plaza, and the Saturday market sets up right outside your window. I loved being able to grab fresh empanadas for breakfast and then walk five minutes to catch transport to Colchagua Valley’s wineries. The concierge – Maria, I think her name was – helped me book a last-minute tour at Viu Manent when my original plans fell through, and she even called ahead to make sure they had English-speaking guides available.
Is it perfect? Well, the WiFi gets a bit spotty on the upper floors, and if you’re a light sleeper, request a room away from the plaza side during weekends – Santa Cruz knows how to party. But honestly, these are minor complaints for what you get. The location alone makes it worth staying here, and the fact that it’s run by people who genuinely care about giving you a real Santa Cruz experience rather than just a generic hotel stay? That’s what bumps it up from good to genuinely memorable. If you’re planning to explore Chile’s wine country, this is your base camp.

Great food. Great decor. Good location.
What could be improved: Mealtimes are busy so service is a little slow
Claire from United Kingdom (18 April 2025)
The hotel is beautiful, in the heart of Santa Cruz. Our room was very nice, loved the little chocolates. The breakfast was very good with options for every palate. What could be improved: We visited the spa, it’s a shame the facilities are in the toilets which are separate for men and women. Also the women’s steam room didn’t work, I reported...

Cool historic hotel in the heart of the pueblo. Lots of vintage style throughout with old school, elegant service from the staff. Staff is very courteous and helpful. Hotel is in a kind of complex, with many on-site amenities. Breakfast is a huge buffet with all the best Colchagua has to offer. Restaurant is quite good. Pool, spa, etc.
