HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what really struck me about the Antay Hotel & Spa when I first walked in? It’s this perfect balance between modern luxury and actually understanding what travelers need in Arica. I mean, you’re right on Avenida Chile – which honestly is one of the better streets to be on since you’re close to everything but not dealing with the chaos of the main tourist drag.
The spa situation here is legit, and I say that as someone who’s been disappointed by plenty of hotel “spas” that turn out to be a single massage room with questionable lighting. This one actually feels like they put thought into it – the treatment rooms have this calming desert-meets-ocean vibe that somehow captures Arica perfectly. The staff knows their stuff too, which matters when you’ve been hiking in the Atacama or dealing with the surprisingly intense sun here (seriously, the UV levels in northern Chile will surprise you if you’re not prepared). What I really appreciated was how quiet everything stays – even when the hotel’s busy, you don’t hear people stomping around above you or slamming doors at all hours.
The location thing is interesting because while tourists often gravitate toward staying right by the beach, being on this stretch of Avenida Chile means you’re actually within walking distance of both the waterfront and the better local restaurants that aren’t just serving overpriced fish to visitors. There’s this little coffee place about two blocks down that locals hit up in the mornings, and you’d never find it if you were stuck in one of those beachfront places. Parking was surprisingly painless too – they’ve got their own garage, which is honestly a relief because street parking in Arica can be… well, let’s just say it’s an adventure. The 9.1 rating makes sense when you add up all these little details that show they actually pay attention. Check-in was smooth, the rooms are spacious without feeling like they’re trying too hard to impress, and the beds are genuinely comfortable (not just fancy-looking). I slept better here than I had in weeks of traveling through Chile, and part of that was probably the quiet but also just the overall sense that this place runs well. It’s the kind of hotel where you can tell the management actually stays here sometimes and notices when things aren’t working right.
