HOTEL OVERVIEW
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Apartamento Playa y Casino on Avenida Costanera, I wasn’t expecting much. The name made it sound like some sketchy casino hotel, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. It’s right there on Coquimbo’s waterfront strip, and I mean RIGHT there – you can literally hear the waves from your room, which is either amazing or potentially annoying depending on how you feel about ocean sounds at night (I’m team ocean sounds, personally).
What really got me was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about the place. Check-in was smooth, and the guy at the front desk – I think his name was Carlos – actually gave me useful local tips instead of just handing over key cards with a fake smile. The apartments themselves are well, they’re proper apartments, not just hotel rooms with a mini-fridge shoved in the corner. Full kitchens, decent living spaces, and honestly better WiFi than most places I’ve stayed in Chile. The casino part is there if that’s your thing, but it’s not overwhelming or smoky throughout the whole building like I was worried about. You can completely ignore it if gambling isn’t on your agenda.
The location is actually pretty perfect for exploring this part of the coast. You’re walking distance from the port area where all those sea lions hang out (seriously, go check that out), and it’s an easy drive to La Serena if you want to do the tourist thing there. Parking was never an issue, which – trust me – is not something you can take for granted in Chilean coastal towns during summer. The beach access is solid too, though the water’s always going to be cold here because, well, Pacific Ocean. I stayed during shoulder season in March and the whole area felt relaxed without being dead, if that makes sense. The nearby restaurants along the costanera are hit or miss, but there’s this little marisquería about three blocks south that does incredible empanadas de mariscos – just saying. The only minor complaint I’d have is that the elevators are a bit slow, and if you’re on a higher floor with luggage, well… maybe pack light or embrace the workout. But honestly, for a 4-star place with a 9.2 rating, it delivers on what it promises without any nasty surprises.

Con respecto a la ubicación, fue muy sencillo llegar, tiene estacionamiento propio que se puede ver desde el balcón del departamento. Fue un lugar muy limpio y confortable. AdemA estaba bien temperado y aislado de ruidos fuertes.
