HOTEL OVERVIEW

You know what struck me first about AUSVIA cabañas tinajas y spa? The name honestly doesn’t do it justice – I was expecting something pretty basic given it’s a 3-star place, but this spot actually punches way above its weight. It’s tucked away on Ingenieros Militares street in Hornopiren, which if you haven’t been, is this tiny fishing town that feels like the end of the world in the best possible way. Most people just pass through here on their way to Caleta Gonzalo, but they’re missing out.

The cabañas themselves are these charming wooden structures that feel properly remote without being rustic in an uncomfortable way. I mean, you’ve got your spa treatments and everything, but you’re also hearing the sound of actual wind through trees at night – not traffic, not air conditioning units, just wind. The tinajas (those are the hot tubs, basically) are the real draw though. Picture this: you’re soaking in naturally heated water while looking out at mountains that probably don’t even have names, and honestly, it’s hard to care about anything else in the world. The water temperature is perfect too – not scalding like some places that think hotter equals better.

What really sells this place for me is how the staff actually knows the area. When I asked about hiking trails, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a generic pamphlet – he drew me a little map showing where to park near the waterfall trail and warned me about the muddy section (saved my hiking boots, honestly). The location puts you right at the gateway to Pumalín Park, which is incredible if you’re into that whole untouched Patagonia thing. Plus, you’re only about a 10-minute walk to the harbor where you can catch the ferry to Leptepu – super handy if you’re island hopping. The breakfast isn’t fancy, but they serve it until like 10:30, which is clutch when you’ve been staying up late stargazing. And speaking of that, the light pollution here is basically zero, so bring a camera if you’re into night photography. One small thing though – the WiFi can be spotty, but honestly, that might be a feature not a bug depending on what you’re looking for.

Lewis/ owner/manager a very genuine person. He made us feel very comfortable and welcomed us when we arrived. The cabin is not luxurious, however more than adequate.Lewis recommended two restaurants which we enjoyed very much. When we passed him on the property he always asked if all was well. It was lovely and peaceful.

The host is great, always looking to help us out, gave us some tips and very friendly.
The place also offers amazing hot tubs in the forest.

What could be improved: We like everything

What could be improved: The advertisement on booking specifically states a washing machine and a dryer. In reality the owner is taking your clothes for cleaning and drying and charges extra for this service.

The bed was comfortable, as well as the whole cabin
Pretty spacious
The kitchen was stocked well enough. It was easy to make pasta
Wifi worked fine
A tinaja was available for another 45.000, with at least 2 hours notice
It is very close to the Copec and to the ferry line
There is a really friendly dog

What could be improved: It is a bit pricey for a cabin imo, but it was nicer than most cabins we stayed in too.
The shower worked great once, but later in the night wouldn't get hot again. Might've been because we had the heater on too.
The dog gets a bit too friendly, and can like to play with biting. He's very jumpy too.

The room was spacous, comfortable and warm. It had all the kitchen facilities and utensils we needed to cook our own dinner and provided a few essentials like oil, salt, sugar and coffe. There was also a jar of rock salt with sriracha that we are now looking for to buy ourselves. The host was very friendly and helpful. The room was very quiet and the property had a secluded forest vibe.

What could be improved: Nothing of any importance. Signage on the property entrance be a bit more obvious.

Great host and nice little cabaña. We really enjoyed the stay!

What could be improved: The curtains are not keeping the light out.

The host is the most hospitable person in Chile. VERY near the port where you take the ferry (crucial for us), very near excellent restaurants and convenience stores.

What could be improved: Mattress too soft

What could be improved: Nada.
