Vibrant Living Retreat

88 Rippingale Road, 7334 Hanmer Springs, New Zealand
HOTEL OVERVIEW
Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of places in Hanmer Springs, and honestly? Vibrant Living Retreat caught me off guard in the best way. It’s tucked away on Rippingale Road – you know, that quieter stretch where you can actually hear yourself think, but you’re still just a few minutes’ walk from the main thermal pools. The first thing that hit me when I walked in was how they’ve managed to nail that whole “mountain lodge meets modern comfort” vibe without it feeling forced or trying too hard.
The rooms are actually spacious (and I mean properly spacious, not “hotel brochure spacious”), with these massive windows that frame the surrounding hills perfectly. You’ll wake up to mountain views that change throughout the day – I found myself just sitting there with my coffee watching the light shift across the peaks. The beds are ridiculously comfortable too, which matters more than you’d think after a long day soaking in the hot springs or hiking the forest walks. What really impressed me though was the attention to detail – quality linens that don’t feel scratchy, blackout curtains that actually work (thank god), and bathrooms with proper water pressure. The common areas have this relaxed energy where you can spread out with a book or chat with other travelers without feeling like you’re in someone’s living room.
The location is honestly perfect if you want that sweet spot between being close to everything but not right in the thick of tourist central. You’re maybe a seven-minute stroll to the thermal pools complex, and the little café strip is right there when you need decent coffee or a proper meal. Parking’s easy too – no circling around looking for a spot like you get closer to the main drag. The staff actually seem to know the area well, not just the standard tourist stuff, and they’ll point you toward the less obvious hiking trails or tell you the best times to hit the pools when they’re not packed. I mean, at a 9.2 rating and 4.5 stars, you’d expect it to be good, but this place delivers on that promise without the pretentiousness that sometimes comes with higher-end spots. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to extend your stay an extra night – which, let’s be honest, isn’t the worst problem to have in Hanmer Springs.

We absolutely loved our overnight stay here! The 3 bedroom cottage is spacious and cosy and has all the basic necessities and more! The big heater in the living areas was put on before our arrival so it was nice and warm when we arrived, and we certainly appreciated the electric blankets and oil heaters in the bedrooms as well. We also were...

So clean! Great facilities and plenty of space for a family. Close enough to Hanmer shops but far enough away that you feel secluded and peaceful
