The Remarkable Escape for 8 sits in this quiet residential pocket where you can actually hear birds in the morning instead of tour buses revving up, but you’re still only about a 10-minute drive down into town when you want that lakefront buzz.

The house itself is one of those modern New Zealand builds that actually gets the indoor-outdoor thing right – I mean, so many places talk about it, but here you’ve got these huge sliding doors that basically disappear, and suddenly your living space just flows out onto this deck with views that’ll make you forget to check your phone for hours. The Remarkables are right there doing their dramatic mountain thing, and depending on the time of year, you might catch them with snow caps or that golden hour glow that makes everyone think they’re suddenly a photographer. Inside, it’s clearly been set up by someone who’s actually hosted groups before – there’s enough space that eight people aren’t tripping over each other, the kitchen has proper knives (you’d be surprised how rare that is), and the bedrooms are spread out enough that early risers won’t wake the whole crew. The décor walks that line between Instagram-worthy and actually comfortable, if that makes sense.

What I really appreciated was the parking situation – sounds boring, I know, but try finding spots for two rental cars in central Queenstown and you’ll understand why having a proper driveway matters. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that awkward “meet at a random café” thing you sometimes get with vacation rentals. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the water pressure upstairs isn’t quite as strong as downstairs, but honestly, with views like these from the master bedroom, you’re not spending much time complaining about showers. During ski season this place probably books out months ahead – Fern Hill’s become a bit of a known secret for groups who want quick access to Coronet Peak without paying resort prices. But even in summer, there’s something pretty perfect about having your own space to come back to after a day on the lake or hiking around Arrowtown. It’s one of those places where you end up extending your stay if you can swing it.
