Cumberland Court Motel

Cnr Omahu & Maraekakaho Road, New Zealand, 4120 Hastings, New Zealand
HOTEL OVERVIEW
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Cumberland Court Motel at that corner where Omahu meets Maraekakaho Road, I wasn’t expecting much. The name screams “roadside stop,” you know? But honestly, this place surprised me in the best way. It’s got that clean, no-nonsense vibe that actually works really well when you’re exploring Hastings and just want somewhere comfortable to crash without all the fussy hotel stuff. The rooms are bigger than you’d expect (I mean, genuinely spacious, not just “cozy” which usually means cramped), and everything feels recently updated – like someone actually cares about the place rather than just collecting booking fees.
What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays, even though you’re right there on a pretty busy intersection. The soundproofing is surprisingly good, and the staff actually knows the area – they pointed me toward some local spots I never would’ve found otherwise. Parking’s dead easy, which honestly matters more than people think when you’re hauling luggage around after a long drive. The whole setup just works. You’re literally five minutes from the main Hastings action, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with weekend noise or crowds stumbling around at 2 AM. I stayed during apple harvest season (which gets pretty hectic around here), and even then it felt like a proper retreat at the end of the day.
Here’s the thing that sold me on this place – it’s one of those spots where you can tell the owners actually stay there themselves sometimes. The coffee setup in the room wasn’t some sad instant packet situation, the shower pressure was legitimately excellent, and the beds… well, I slept like the dead, which rarely happens when I travel. Plus, you’re positioned perfectly if you want to explore the wineries out toward Te Mata Peak or head into Napier for the day. The 4-star rating isn’t just marketing fluff – they’ve earned it by getting all the basics right and then adding some thoughtful touches that make a real difference. For the price point, especially compared to some of the overhyped places closer to the coast, Cumberland Court delivers exactly what you want from a good motel stay. It’s the kind of place I’d actually book again, which says everything you need to know.

The room was very comfortable with a separate bedroom. Bathroom was very comfortable, I would have used the spa bath if we had been there for a longer period of time. The separate kitchen was much appreciated.
What could be improved: Staff were not onsite when we checked in, had to wait for someone to arrive.
Hilary from United Kingdom (24 February 2025)

Rosey from New Zealand (13 February 2025)
Nice location, clean and tidy. Very spacious. Beds were the most comfy beds ever 😊 will definitely come back.
What could be improved: The curtain in the lounge bit needs to be Abit darker. The bright light from across the street shone right through the lounge. But other then that. Would definitely recommend.
