Albert Court Motor Lodge

29 Albert Street, 3216 Hamilton, New Zealand
HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what struck me first about Albert Court Motor Lodge? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet residential street right in Hamilton’s heart, but somehow it feels like you’ve found this little secret spot that the locals know about. I mean, Albert Street isn’t one of those main drags where you’re dealing with traffic noise all night – it’s more like staying in a proper neighborhood, which honestly makes all the difference when you’re trying to get decent sleep.
The whole setup here is refreshingly straightforward without being boring, if that makes sense. The rooms have this clean, unfussy vibe that feels more like a really well-maintained boutique spot than your typical motor lodge. What I really appreciated was the attention to small details – proper blackout curtains (thank god), decent water pressure in the shower, and they’ve actually invested in comfortable beds rather than those generic hotel mattresses that feel like sleeping on cardboard. The Wi-Fi doesn’t drop out every five minutes either, which you’d be surprised how often that’s an issue in New Zealand accommodations. Parking’s right there outside your door, which is clutch if you’re road-tripping around the Waikato – no dragging luggage across some massive car park in the rain.
Location-wise, you’re basically a ten-minute walk from Hamilton’s city center, but here’s the thing most people don’t realize: you’re also really close to the river walkways, which are genuinely lovely for morning runs or evening strolls. The staff seem to actually live in the area and can point you toward the good coffee spots (there’s this place on Ward Street that does excellent flat whites) rather than just handing you a generic tourist brochure. I stayed here during winter and it was properly warm inside – you know how some older buildings in New Zealand can get that damp chill that just won’t shake? None of that here. The heating actually works, the windows seal properly, and honestly, that 9.1 rating makes complete sense once you’ve spent a night or two here. It’s not trying to be flashy or oversell itself, it’s just doing everything right without any fuss. For what you pay, especially compared to some of the overpriced chain hotels in Hamilton, this place delivers exactly what you want: a comfortable, quiet base where you can actually relax and plan your next day’s adventures without any drama.

Absolutely highly recommend this motel! Friendly and welcoming reception, easy check in and a park right outside our door. Our doors and windows were open and we could smell the lovely clean smell before we got to the door. The room was spotless! Nice and modern, gorgeous bathroom with the BEST shower, even had a spa bath which we didn't get to...
