The staff seem to actually live in the area and can point you toward the good coffee spots (there’s this place on Ward Street that does excellent flat whites) rather than just handing you a generic tourist brochure. I stayed here during winter and it was properly warm inside – you know how some older buildings in New Zealand can get that damp chill that just won’t shake? None of that here. The heating actually works, the windows seal properly, and honestly, that 9.1 rating makes complete sense once you’ve spent a night or two here. It’s not trying to be flashy or oversell itself, it’s just doing everything right without any fuss. For what you pay, especially compared to some of the overpriced chain hotels in Hamilton, this place delivers exactly what you want: a comfortable, quiet base where you can actually relax and plan your next day’s adventures without any drama.
