The beds are properly comfortable (and I’m picky about mattresses), there’s decent water pressure in the showers, and – this might sound silly – but the curtains actually block out light when you want to sleep in. You’d be surprised how many places mess up these basics. The staff genuinely seem to know the area too, not just the standard tourist script. When I asked about good walking spots, they pointed me toward some coastal tracks that weren’t on any of the obvious tourism websites.

Parking is straightforward, which matters more than you’d think around here during summer when the beach crowds descend. The whole property has this unhurried feel – even during what seemed like a busy weekend, it never felt chaotic or rushed. I suspect the 8.4 rating reflects this kind of consistency; it’s not trying to be the flashiest place on the coast, but it delivers on what it promises. The price point feels fair for what you get, especially considering you’re getting proper hotel service in an area where your other options are mostly holiday rentals (which can be hit or miss) or basic motels. If you’re planning to explore this stretch of coast properly – maybe day trips to Kapiti Island or just long beach walks – it makes a solid base that won’t drain your travel budget or leave you dealing with quirky accommodation surprises.
