Plus, there’s something to be said for coming back to this quiet valley after a day of tourist chaos in town. The staff seemed to genuinely know the area too, which made a difference when I was trying to figure out the best time to hit Puzzling World or whether the weather would hold for a lake cruise. The only minor downside? You’ll definitely want a car – walking to town isn’t really an option, and while there are shuttles during peak season, having your own wheels gives you the freedom to explore the back roads and hidden spots that make Wanaka special.
