Acorn Hideaway Resort & Spa Overview
Look, I’ll be honest with you – when I first pulled up to Acorn Hideaway Resort & Spa in Sawaldey village, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. The location is pretty deep into Rāmnagar territory, maybe twenty minutes from the main bazaar area if you’re lucky with traffic, and the road gets a bit bumpy once you turn off toward the village. But here’s the thing that caught me off guard: this place actually feels like a proper retreat, not just another resort trying too hard to be fancy.
The property itself sits on this sprawling piece of land where you can actually hear yourself think – I mean, coming from Delhi, that’s saying something. They’ve got these traditional-style cottages scattered around (though honestly, some look more maintained than others), and the spa building is where they clearly put most of their renovation budget. The staff tries really hard, which I appreciate, though the service can be a bit inconsistent depending on the season. I visited during the quieter months in late September, and check-in was smooth enough, but I’ve heard from other travelers that things get pretty hectic during peak tourist season when everyone’s heading to nearby Corbett National Park.
What I actually loved about this place was how it doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. The rooms are comfortable – nothing mind-blowing, but clean with decent hot water, which honestly matters more than fancy marble when you’re this far out. The food situation is interesting; they do a solid job with North Indian dishes, and their dal-chawal hits the spot after a long day of sightseeing. You know what surprised me though? The breakfast spread is pretty generous, and they make fresh parathas to order. The pool area gets great afternoon light if you’re into that sort of thing, though it’s not heated, so mornings can be a bit chilly.
Now, I have to mention – that 6.1 rating probably reflects some real issues. The Wi-Fi is pretty spotty (almost nonexistent in some cottages), and maintenance could definitely be better in places. I noticed some worn furniture and a few plumbing quirks, but nothing deal-breaking if you’re not expecting perfection. What makes up for it is the location’s genuine peace and quiet, plus you’re actually well-positioned for day trips to Corbett or even some lesser-known temples in the area that most tourists never hear about. The resort runs a decent taxi service too, which helps since you’ll definitely need transport to get around. It’s one of those places that grows on you – not Instagram-perfect, but there’s something authentic about staying somewhere that feels connected to the actual landscape and local community rather than dropped in from some corporate hotel playbook.

The property was far from the centre and was not worth the drive as the facilities and the resort itself are poor.
