Aldeia Santa Rita – Candolim

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Aldeia Santa Rita – it’s tucked away in this quiet residential pocket of Candolim, right next to Kingfisher Villa, and you might actually drive past it if you’re not paying attention. But that’s sort of the point, I think. While everyone’s fighting for space at the bigger resorts closer to the main beach strip, this little 3-star gem sits in Dando where you can actually hear yourself think.

The thing about this place is it gets the basics really right without trying to be something it’s not. You know what I mean? The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but the AC works well (crucial during those sticky April afternoons), and I actually loved that you could open the windows at night to let in that sea breeze. The staff here genuinely seems to care, which honestly makes such a difference when you’re dealing with travel hiccups or just need good restaurant recommendations. They pointed me toward this incredible fish curry place down a side street that I never would’ve found otherwise. The whole property has this relaxed, almost homey vibe – there’s a small pool area where you’ll find a mix of families and couples, and it never felt crowded even during peak season.

Location-wise, you’re about a 7-minute walk to Candolim Beach, which means you skip the chaos of the beachfront hotels but you’re not stuck in the middle of nowhere either. I mean, you can still hear the occasional motorbike or early morning fishing boats, but it’s nothing compared to the constant noise near Fort Aguada Road. The narrow lanes around here are perfect for evening walks, and there’s a little convenience store just around the corner when you need water or snacks. Parking was never an issue – something I definitely can’t say about some of the places I’ve stayed closer to the main tourist drag. What really won me over was how the place felt authentic without being rough around the edges. Sure, the Wi-Fi can be spotty sometimes, and the breakfast spread isn’t going to blow your mind, but there’s something refreshing about a hotel that focuses on being a comfortable base rather than trying to keep you locked on the property all day. Plus, at this price point and with that 7.8 rating, you’re getting solid value – especially if you’re the type who wants to explore Goa rather than just lounge by a pool all week.
