The folk music performances happen right in the main courtyard, and while they’re definitely tourist-oriented, the musicians are talented and seem to genuinely enjoy what they’re doing.

Here’s the thing about desert properties – they either nail the whole experience or they feel like you’re roughing it for no good reason. Anantra definitely nails it. The food is way better than you’d expect this far from the city center, with a nice mix of Rajasthani specialties and familiar options. Their dal baati churma is legitimately good, not just “good for a hotel.” Service moves at desert pace, which means slower than city hotels but with more genuine warmth. The check-in process was smooth, and they actually helped coordinate our camel safari timing with the sunset, which saved us from that awkward waiting-around period.

If you’re coming during peak season (October through March), book way ahead because this place fills up with people who’ve figured out it’s one of the better options near the dunes. Summer is obviously brutal here, but if you can handle the heat, you’ll practically have the place to yourself. Just remember that desert nights get surprisingly cold, even when the days are scorching – the staff will bring extra blankets, but pack a light jacket anyway.
