There’s also this lovely outdoor area where people gather in the evenings, not in a forced “activities coordinator” way, but naturally because it’s just a nice spot to decompress.

Here’s what really sets it apart though – the staff actually know Taupo. When I mentioned wanting to avoid the touristy thermal pools, they pointed me toward some local spots that weren’t packed with tour buses. They also warned me about the weekend boat traffic on the lake (good call – Saturday afternoons can get pretty hectic out there). The whole experience feels more like staying with knowledgeable locals than checking into a generic resort. Sure, it’s not the flashiest place in town, but that 9.3 rating makes total sense when you consider how everything just works smoothly. The wifi doesn’t drop out every ten minutes, the heating actually heats, and checkout doesn’t involve standing in line behind three families arguing about minibar charges.
