You know what? I’ll be honest – I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Araiya Palampur. The drive through Morepaani Kandi Village is pretty unassuming, just winding roads and tea gardens stretching everywhere, but then you turn this corner and there it is. The property actually sits on what feels like the edge of the world, with the Dhauladhar ranges just sprawling out in front of you like someone painted them there. I mean, the photos online don’t really do it justice – there’s this crisp mountain air that hits you the second you step out of the car, and honestly, after breathing Delhi pollution for months, it’s kind of shocking how clean everything feels.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to keep that luxury hotel vibe without losing the whole Himachal charm. The rooms are proper spacious (and I’m talking about the base category here, not some upgraded suite), with these huge windows that basically frame the mountains like artwork. The staff actually knows the area – not just rehearsed responses about tourist spots, but real local knowledge. Our guy at the front desk told us about this little trail behind the property that leads to a viewpoint most people miss, and he was right. It’s maybe a 20-minute walk, nothing too strenuous, but you get these views of the Kangra Valley that are absolutely mental. The food situation is solid too – they do this traditional Himachali thali that’s way better than the touristy stuff you get in Dharamshala, and their continental breakfast actually has decent coffee, which honestly can be hit or miss in this part of the country.

Here’s the thing though – this place gets busy during peak season (April-May and October-November), so if you’re planning to visit then, book way ahead. But if you can swing it during the quieter months, it’s almost like having your own private mountain retreat. The spa is pretty decent if you’re into that sort of thing, and they have this outdoor seating area where you can just sit with a book and watch the weather roll across the mountains. It’s about 45 minutes from Dharamshala if you want to do the whole McLeod Ganj thing, but honestly, once you’re settled in here, you might not want to leave. The Wi-Fi is surprisingly good for the mountains, parking is never an issue, and check-in was smooth – no waiting around with luggage while they sort things out. I’d definitely come back, probably in the monsoon season next time because apparently the whole valley turns incredibly green, and the rates drop quite a bit too.
