HOTEL OVERVIEW

You know what? Ardencote caught me completely off guard – and I mean that in the best way possible. Tucked away on Lye Green Road in this sleepy corner of Warwickshire, it’s one of those places that feels like a proper discovery rather than just another hotel booking. The building itself has this gorgeous manor house vibe (think Downton Abbey vibes but without the stuffiness), and honestly, driving up through Claverdon to get there is half the experience. The countryside around Henley in Arden is absolutely stunning, especially if you hit it during late spring when everything’s properly green and alive.

What really gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between fancy and actually comfortable. The rooms feel genuinely luxurious without being intimidating – you know those hotels where you’re scared to touch anything? This isn’t that. The beds are properly good (I’m talking deep sleep, wake up refreshed good), and the bathrooms have that spa-like quality that makes you want to take longer showers than necessary. The restaurant surprised me too – I went in with pretty standard expectations for hotel food, but they’re doing some seriously impressive stuff with local ingredients. The Sunday roast is worth planning your stay around, and I’m saying that as someone who’s pretty particular about their Yorkshire puddings.

Here’s the thing though – and this is important if you’re planning a visit – Ardencote works best when you embrace the countryside location rather than fighting it. You’re not going to stumble out the front door into bustling nightlife (the nearest proper town action is a good drive away), but that’s actually the point. This is where you come to properly unwind, maybe explore the Warwickshire countryside, or use it as a base for Stratford-upon-Avon day trips. The staff seem to get this too – they’re genuinely helpful with local recommendations and don’t try to oversell you on things. Parking’s easy, the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward. The 7.8 rating feels about right to me – it’s not going to blow your mind with cutting-edge amenities, but it delivers really well on what it promises. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels like a proper escape without the London hotel prices, Ardencote’s definitely worth considering.
