Arizona Grand Resort Overview
First Impressions
The Arizona Grand Resort sits tucked against South Mountain in a way that honestly surprised me — you’re technically in Phoenix, but it feels like you’ve escaped to some desert oasis. This four-star property sprawls across enough acreage that you’ll want to grab one of their bikes just to explore everything. The lobby has this Southwestern elegance that doesn’t feel forced, with soaring ceilings and those massive windows that frame the mountain backdrop perfectly.
The Desert Setting
What I love about this spot is how they’ve managed to create something that feels genuinely Arizona without the tourist trap vibe. You’re about twenty minutes from downtown Phoenix, but honestly, once you’re here, you might not want to leave. The South Mountain Preserve is literally your backyard — I mean, you can hike right from the property if that’s your thing. The spa takes full advantage of this setting too, with treatment rooms that open to desert views and this sense of space that’s hard to find in most city hotels.
Accommodations That Actually Deliver
The room I stayed in was one of their casitas, and you know what struck me? The beds really are as comfortable as everyone says — there’s something about sinking into those linens after a day in the desert heat that just works. Most accommodations come with private patios or balconards, which became my favorite spot for morning coffee. The bathrooms are spacious (important when you’re dealing with desert dust), and the air conditioning is powerful enough to handle Arizona summers without making you feel like you’re in an icebox.
Activities and Amenities
The resort’s water features are honestly the star of the show — there’s this lazy river that winds around the property, and multiple pools that cater to different moods. Want to be active? The fitness center is well-equipped, and there’s a golf course within easy reach if you’re brave enough to play in the desert heat. The restaurant on-site does solid Southwestern cuisine, though I’d recommend venturing out to some of Phoenix’s incredible food scene at least once during your stay. Parking is free and plentiful, which might sound minor but trust me, it’s one less thing to worry about.
Why Guests Love It
Couples seem to particularly appreciate this place, and I can see why — there’s something romantic about those desert sunsets from your private patio, and the property is large enough that it never feels crowded. The staff genuinely knows the area and can point you toward hidden hiking trails or the best spots for stargazing. It’s the kind of place where you can be as active or as relaxed as you want, with that authentic Arizona atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve actually experienced the desert, not just visited a hotel that happens to be in Arizona.
Guest Reviews
The rooms are spacious and the Waterpark is wonderful for kids
The water park was nice. Lots of chairs gives everyone the chance to find seating. The Lazy River is fun. The big pools has waves, so that is nice for those with kids, and their slides are really nice. The resort is centrally located, being right off...
The rooms and water park were perfect. Checking staff was really nice and everything on property was five star. Close to the airport.
We loved the magician... Def should be paying that guy well. He bring another enjoyable complimentary moment to thee guests that *with kids* makes things very special and fun. We appreciated that! We also liked that it has a classic old school feel...
the oasis
The rooms were clean and the view from balcony was pretty. The July 4th firework show was awesome! The shuttle from hotel to Rustler’s Roost is very convenient.
The waterpark, staff were friendly and the convenience of being able to use the golf cart to be transported throughout the property.
