HOTEL OVERVIEW

Honestly, when I first walked into ART HOTELS SHIBUYA, I wasn’t expecting much – I mean, it’s tucked away on Honmachi street, which most tourists wouldn’t even know exists. But you know what? That’s actually part of its charm. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the chaos of Shibuya Crossing, but the hotel sits in this surprisingly quiet pocket of the neighborhood where you can actually hear yourself think.

The art theme isn’t just some marketing gimmick either – they’ve actually curated pieces throughout the property that feel intentional, not like they raided a hotel supply catalog. The lobby has this modern, clean aesthetic that somehow manages to feel warm instead of sterile (which, let’s be honest, a lot of contemporary Japanese hotels struggle with). What really impressed me was the attention to detail in the rooms – the lighting is soft and adjustable, there’s actual storage space for your stuff, and the bathroom amenities are quality without being pretentious. The walls are surprisingly thick too, so even though you’re in one of Tokyo’s busiest districts, you won’t hear your neighbors shuffling around at 2 AM.

Here’s what I really appreciated: the staff genuinely seems to know the area. When I asked about getting to Meiji Shrine without dealing with the Harajuku crowds, the front desk guy gave me this whole alternative route through the backstreets that saved me probably 20 minutes of tourist traffic. The concierge also pointed me toward this tiny ramen place on a side street that I never would’ve found otherwise – and it was honestly better than the famous spots everyone lines up for. Parking is sort of a pain if you’re driving (though why would you in Shibuya?), but the train connections are incredible. You’re practically on top of multiple subway lines, and Shinjuku is literally one stop away. I stayed there during Golden Week, which is usually a nightmare for hotels, but check-in was smooth and they had this whole system figured out to avoid the usual lobby chaos. The breakfast isn’t anything revolutionary, but it’s solid and the coffee is actually good – not that burnt hotel coffee you usually get. My only real complaint is that the elevators can be slow during peak times, but honestly, that’s pretty minor. For the price point and location, especially with that 8.6 rating, it’s one of those places that just works without trying too hard to impress you.

I ASKED FOR AN EXTRA PILLOW AND THEY GAVE ME AN EXTRA PILLOW.

What could be improved: NOTHING.

I adored the fact that it was fully equipped with a kitchenette and laundry machine it truly came in handy as I did laundry daily and used the kitchen regularly. The location was great as well - in a quiet area a 4 minute walk to the nearest station and in walking distance to Meiji and Harajuku and other popular Tokyo locations. The cafe downstairs is also incredible. The food and drinks were delicious and staff was pleasant.

What could be improved: The only comment I would say is perhaps adding more pillows than one for the bedding as the one pillow isn't much - but otherwise nothing negative to say!

The room was clean and had a good facility. They had small kitchen sink and laundry. I could have stayed multiple days, if I had more time in tokyo. The room was clean and had a good facility. They had small kitchen sink and laundry. I could have stayed multiple days, if I had more time in tokyo. What could be improved: It's a bit of a walk from the shinjuku station, but they have a bus station right outside. Room can be a bit tight for two people or people with big luggage.

Very clean with all the amenities you need at no extra cost. The cafe downstairs is top notch!

What could be improved: There is only a washer and no dryer.

Everything

What could be improved: The check-in process after 7pm was quite complicated as there was none available at the front desk

Really great use of space, all the amenities you would need. Super comfortable as a base to move around Tokyo. The little coffee shop downstairs is amazing too! Also, in terms of value for money, this place cannot be beaten. I'd stay here again if visiting Tokyo for sure. What could be improved: Nothing per se. It's not a huge room and the service...

What could be improved: Nothing per se. It's not a huge room and the service is pretty limited (they don't clean every day for instance) but honestly, I didn't find this a problem at all. Just keep that in mind if you're expecting the classic hotel experience.
