The apartment itself feels properly lived-in rather than sterile – there’s actual art on the walls, not those generic coastal prints every rental seems to have, and the kitchen’s stocked like someone who actually cooks uses it. I mean, they had a proper coffee grinder, which honestly made my mornings. The balcony faces inland rather than ocean-view, but that’s actually not a bad thing because you get these glimpses of the Kaimai Range in the distance, and the street noise is practically nonexistent compared to the surf-side places.

The thing that surprised me most was how well everything worked – and I say this as someone who’s stayed in plenty of apartments where the WiFi cuts out every twenty minutes or the hot water runs cold mid-shower. None of that here. Plus, parking’s included in a proper garage spot, which might not sound exciting but try finding street parking around here during summer and you’ll appreciate it. The building itself is one of those newer developments that doesn’t feel like a concrete box, and the other guests I bumped into in the hallway were mostly Kiwi families or couples, not party groups (though honestly, Mount Maunganui draws a pretty chill crowd anyway). Location-wise, you’re close enough to walk to Pilot Bay for those calmer water days, or wander down to the Mount climbing track when you’re feeling ambitious. The local shops along Maunganui Road have everything you need without the tourist markup you get closer to the beach. It’s the kind of place where you settle in for a few days and actually feel like you’re living somewhere rather than just passing through – which, considering that 8.8 rating, seems to be exactly what they’re going for.
