So I’ve stayed at Bluegreen’s Bayside Resort and Spa a few times now, and honestly? It’s one of those places that grows on you. First impression when you pull up on Jan Cooley Drive – it’s actually tucked away from the main Front Beach Road chaos, which I didn’t expect. You know how most Panama City Beach hotels are right in the thick of things with all that spring break energy? This one sits back a bit, and you can already tell it’s going for a different vibe.

The thing about this place is it’s really trying to be that upscale family resort experience, and mostly it succeeds. The spa is legitimately good – I mean, you’re not getting some world-renowned destination spa, but after a day of dealing with PCB crowds and sun, those massage therapists know what they’re doing. The pools are where this place really shines though. There’s this lazy river that winds around, and even during busy summer weeks, it never feels completely packed. The kids go crazy for it, but it’s long enough that you can float without constantly bumping into screaming teenagers.

What I really appreciate is how they’ve managed the whole timeshare thing without being too pushy about it. Yeah, you’ll get the pitch if you let them know you’re interested, but they’re not cornering you at breakfast or anything. The rooms themselves are solid – definitely feel more like condos than hotel rooms, with actual kitchens you’d want to use and living spaces that don’t feel cramped when you’ve got four people and a week’s worth of beach gear spread around. The balcony views vary wildly depending on where they put you, so it’s worth asking when you check in if you care about that sort of thing.

Location-wise, you’re about a ten-minute drive to Pier Park, which is perfect because you can hit the shops and restaurants when you want to, but you’re not dealing with that parking nightmare every time you come back to your room. The beach access is straightforward – no weird long walks or shuttles – and this stretch tends to be less crowded than the areas right around the pier. Actually, some of the best fishing spots are just down the beach from here, if you’re into that.

I’ll be honest though, the 7.2 rating makes sense. It’s not quite hitting that premium resort mark consistently. Sometimes the service feels a bit scattered, especially during check-in on Saturday afternoons when everyone’s turning over. And while the restaurants on-site are fine, you’ll probably want to venture out for dinner most nights – but that’s true for pretty much anywhere in PCB unless you’re at one of the really high-end places.

The real win here is that it feels like a legitimate family vacation spot without being too stuffy or expensive. Your kids can run around and be kids, but you’re not surrounded by college chaos or feeling like you’re staying at a budget motel. For a four-star place in Panama City Beach, it delivers on what it promises, even if it’s not going to blow you away. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need for a solid beach week.
