HOTEL OVERVIEW

You know what struck me first about this place on Plantation Road? It’s actually in one of those newer developments that feels more like a proper neighborhood than your typical tourist accommodation cluster. I mean, you’re still close enough to walk into Wanaka’s center – maybe fifteen minutes at a leisurely pace – but you’re tucked away from the main drag where all the backpacker buses idle at 6 AM.

The apartment itself is honestly bigger than I expected from the photos. Two bedrooms that can actually fit your stuff without playing suitcase Tetris, and that hot tub on the deck? Well, it’s not huge, but after a day hiking Roy’s Peak (which, let’s be real, everyone does), it hits the spot perfectly. The kitchen’s got everything you need if you’re planning to cook – and honestly, you should grab supplies from New World on your way in because dining out every night in Wanaka will drain your wallet fast. There’s something satisfying about making coffee in the morning and stepping out onto that deck with the Southern Alps doing their dramatic thing in the distance. The free parking is clutch too, especially during summer when finding a spot in town becomes a contact sport.

Location-wise, you’re sort of in the sweet spot between convenience and quiet. Close enough that you don’t need to drive everywhere, but far enough that you won’t hear drunk tourists stumbling back from Botswana Joe’s at 2 AM. The walk into town takes you past some of those fancy lakefront properties that’ll make you question your life choices, but in a good way. And here’s something the booking sites don’t tell you – you’re actually closer to some of the better trailheads than if you stayed right in the village center. The track to Rocky Mountain is practically around the corner, and if you’re into mountain biking, you can access some great trails without dealing with town traffic. Sure, it’s not going to win any luxury awards, and the furnishings are more IKEA than boutique, but everything works, it’s clean, and the hot tub definitely makes up for any lack of fancy touches. Perfect for couples or small families who want a proper base to explore from without paying resort prices.

Everything we needed was there

What could be improved: The flat was located on the top floor and we had to climb several steps with luggage and had elderly family members with us that struggled. Would have liked to know this before we booked. Luckily it didn't rain as the steps and walkway to the apartment was on the outside of the building

As others have mentioned, and as stated in the booking, the accommodation is up stairs but it was fine. Be mindful if you have bags. It's a great location, we walked into town and back. The parking was easy, the apartment was clean and well equipped, everything you need.

What could be improved: The gym across the road was pretty busy so if you have the door / windows open it can be loud with cars arriving. But we weren't at the apartment that long so it wasn't too much of a bother.
