Camel Valley Resort, Igatpuri Overview
Look, I’ll be honest with you – when I first pulled up to Camel Valley Resort on the Mumbai-Agra highway, I wasn’t expecting much from the location. I mean, it’s literally right off the main road in Telegaon, and you know how these highway hotels can be hit or miss. But honestly? This place surprised me in ways I didn’t see coming.
The thing about Igatpuri is that it’s this perfect sweet spot between Mumbai’s chaos and the Western Ghats’ serenity, and somehow Camel Valley actually captures that balance. Yeah, it’s got the five-star designation, but it doesn’t feel stuffy or overly formal – more like someone took a luxury resort concept and made it actually livable. The rooms are spacious (thank god, because monsoon season here means you’ll be indoors more than you planned), and I actually appreciated that they didn’t go overboard with the décor. Sometimes less really is more, you know? The staff genuinely seems to know the area well too – they pointed me toward some local spots I never would’ve found otherwise, including this tiny place that serves the best vada pav I’ve had outside Mumbai.
What really got me though was how they handle the practical stuff that other places mess up. Parking isn’t a nightmare, which matters when you’re driving up from Mumbai on weekends. The Wi-Fi actually works consistently – crucial if you’re trying to balance a bit of work with your getaway. And here’s something I didn’t expect: the sound insulation is pretty decent considering you’re right off a major highway. Sure, you’ll hear some truck traffic early morning (around 5-6 AM), but it’s not the constant rumble I was dreading. The 7.1 rating makes sense to me – it’s not perfection, but it delivers on what matters. I noticed the housekeeping could be more consistent, and the restaurant service slows down considerably during peak meal times, but honestly, those feel like minor issues when you’re paying significantly less than you would for comparable places closer to Mumbai. The pool area gets crowded on weekends (especially during the cooler months), but if you’re there midweek or can claim a spot early, it’s actually quite pleasant. Plus, being in Igatpuri means you’re perfectly positioned for those early morning treks to Kalsubai or day trips to the various forts around here – something the front desk folks are surprisingly knowledgeable about.
