Cardrona Holiday Villa

2326 Cardrona Valley Road Villa 14, 9381 Cardrona, New Zealand
HOTEL OVERVIEW
Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places around Queenstown and Wanaka, but Cardrona Holiday Villa honestly surprised me in the best way. You know that feeling when you pull up somewhere and immediately think “okay, this is going to be good”? That’s exactly what happened when I turned into the Cardrona Valley Road and saw Villa 14 tucked into the landscape. The thing is, most people race through this valley on their way to the ski fields or back to Wanaka, but they’re missing out on how spectacular it is to actually stay here.
The villa itself sits right in the sweet spot – close enough to hear the Cardrona River if you open the windows at night (which I actually recommend), but far enough from the main road that you won’t get woken up by early morning ski traffic. And trust me, during winter that road gets busy by 7 AM. What really got me was the attention to detail inside. I mean, someone clearly thought about what travelers actually need – proper blackout curtains for those stupidly bright Central Otago mornings, a kitchen that’s actually equipped for cooking real meals, not just heating up instant noodles, and enough space to spread out your gear without living out of a suitcase. The heating system works brilliantly too, which matters more than you’d think when it’s -5°C outside and you’re trying to dry ski gear.
Here’s what I love about the location though – you’re literally 15 minutes from Cardrona ski field, maybe 20 to Treble Cone if you’re feeling adventurous, but you’re also perfectly positioned for summer activities that most tourists completely overlook. The Crown Range walk starts practically from your doorstep, and honestly, some of the best mountain biking trails in the region are right there. Plus, and this is key, you can duck into Wanaka for dinner or supplies in about 25 minutes without dealing with the insane accommodation prices right in town. I actually found myself preferring the drive back to the villa in the evenings – there’s something about winding through the valley as the light hits those mountains that just works. The only thing I’d mention is that you’ll want to stock up on groceries before you settle in, because while the isolation is part of the charm, you’re not exactly walking to a corner store. But that’s hardly a complaint when you’re waking up to views that make you understand why people move to New Zealand and never leave.

The Villa was just perfect in every way. It was wonderfully spacious for 2 couples and had everything we needed. We liked the extra touches like toiletries and pool towels. The location is amazing and the hosts were very helpful.

Beautiful villa in fantastic condition. Great location, a stone's throw away from the infamous Cardrona Hotel. I came here for a wedding and it was a perfect place to stay, with all the things you need to get ready for a wedding (iron, washing machine etc)! Parking onsite was also very easy if you're renting a car. What could be improved: The back...

Tastefully modern Decore. Clean and tidy. More spacious than it looks. Enjoyed relaxing by the pool and spa. A little further away than where we planned to stay (in Wanaka) but picturesque drives which enabled us to access Arrowtown, Wanaka and QT easily enough. So so glad we opted to stay here rather than something in Wanaka at a similar price...

It was perfect for our family of four. Location is awesome and the villa was very comfortable and had everything we needed. We really enjoyed the pool too! The guy who was looking after the pool (didn't catch his name) went out of his way to make sure the spa pool was hot for us and everyone else to enjoy. What could be improved: We loved all of...

Amazing location, spectacular surroundings and very peaceful. Spacious villa, and great pool & spa (though the pool was very cold, didn't bother the kids though). Great to be close to the Cardrona Hotel. What could be improved: The Villa owners should sack the cleaning team: They were meant to leave milk and bottles of water (there wasn't any)...

Super property and in a quiet location but only a short walk to the Cardrona Hotel and local store.

Lara from New Zealand (20 January 2024)
The villa was well presented and better than expectations
Nadia from Australia (16 January 2024)
Pool & hot tub. Villa was clean, well equipped and beds were comfortable. Very useful having a washing machine on-site. Hosts were friendly and responsive. Lovely bottle of wine on arrival.
What could be improved: There were 3 x power outages that lasted an hour or so during our stay.
Chao from Australia (7 January 2024)
It’s close to perfection with hardwares in the villa. What you consider should have at home is generously provided by the villa. Especially for family traveling, the villa gives you a sense of home, cosy and comfortable.
What could be improved: Not currently.
