Chalston Beach Resort

You know what caught me off guard about Chalston Beach Resort? I was expecting another generic beach hotel in Calangute, but this place actually has some personality. It’s tucked away in Khobra Vaddo, which means you’re close enough to hear the waves but far enough from the main Calangute strip that you won’t be dealing with street vendors knocking on your door at 7 AM.

The resort definitely earns its five stars, though I’d say it’s more like sophisticated comfort than flashy luxury. The pool area is where you’ll probably spend most of your time – it’s got this relaxed vibe where families hang out during the day and couples take over in the evenings. I mean, the beach is literally a three-minute walk away, but honestly, sometimes you just want to float around without dealing with sand everywhere. The rooms are spacious (I stayed in one of the sea-facing ones and could actually see a sliver of ocean if I leaned out far enough), and the air conditioning works properly, which isn’t always a given in Goa, even at nice places.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to know the area inside and out. When I asked about getting to Anjuna Market, they didn’t just say “take a taxi” – they told me exactly which local bus to catch and where to get off. The restaurant serves decent Continental food, though honestly, you’re in Goa, so you’ll probably want to venture out for proper seafood. There’s this little place called Infantaria about ten minutes away that locals actually go to, and the hotel staff will point you in the right direction. The resort gets busy during peak season (December through February), but even then, it never felt overcrowded – they seem to manage their bookings well. Check-in was smooth, parking is included, and the Wi-Fi actually works in the rooms, which is more than I can say for half the places I’ve stayed in India. The 8.7 rating makes sense – it’s the kind of place that does everything right without trying too hard to impress you.
