The place itself has this relaxed, lived-in vibe that I really appreciated. It’s not trying to be some fancy resort – it’s more like staying at a well-appointed mountain retreat where someone actually thought about what travelers need. The kitchen is properly stocked (none of that annoying “we have plates but no can opener” situation), and the heating works really well, which matters more than you’d think when you’re up at this altitude. What struck me most was how quiet it gets at night – I mean, dead quiet except for the wind through the trees. If you’re coming from Santiago or any big city, the silence is almost jarring at first, but then it becomes this amazing reset for your brain.

The location is honestly the real win here. You’re close enough to the thermal baths that you can walk over in decent weather (though I’d still drive in winter – that path gets slippery), but far enough away that you’re not dealing with day-tripper crowds stumbling around at all hours. The ski area is right there too, obviously, which in season makes this place gold for anyone wanting to hit the slopes early before the buses arrive from Chillán city. I stayed in late fall when things were quieter, and you could really appreciate how the whole valley opens up around you. The road up can be a bit nerve-wracking if you’re not used to mountain driving – it’s paved but narrow in spots – but most rental cars handle it fine. Just take your time and maybe grab groceries in Pinto or Las Trancas on your way up, because while there are a few places to eat nearby, having your own kitchen gives you so much more flexibility. That 9.5 rating isn’t just hype – this really is one of those places where everything works the way it should, and you end up staying an extra day just because leaving feels like a mistake.
