Depto Andes de Chillán

You know what really struck me about Depto Andes de Chillán? It’s one of those places where you immediately understand why it has a 9.8 rating – and honestly, I’m usually pretty skeptical of ratings that high. But driving up Ruta 55 toward the Termas, you start to get it. The location is just ridiculous in the best way possible. I mean, you’re literally in the Nevados de Chillán area, so when people say “mountain views,” they actually mean it here.

The apartment itself feels like someone’s well-loved family retreat that they decided to share with the world. It’s got that lived-in comfort without being shabby – you know what I mean? The kind of place where you can actually spread out and breathe, which is huge if you’re planning to use this as a base for hitting the thermal springs or the ski area (depending on when you visit). What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Being in a condominium, I was worried about noise, but the Andes sort of swallow everything up. You hear the wind sometimes, which is actually pretty soothing.

Here’s the thing about staying here though – you need to understand what you’re getting into location-wise. This isn’t a walk-to-restaurants kind of place. You’re going to want a car, and honestly, it’s worth planning your grocery runs because the nearest proper shopping is back toward Chillán proper. But that isolation is exactly why it works so well. During ski season (June through September), you’re perfectly positioned for the slopes, and in summer, those thermal springs are basically your backyard. The staff – well, the property management – was surprisingly responsive when I had questions, which isn’t always the case with these vacation rental setups. Check-in was smooth enough, though having some basic Spanish helps since not everyone’s bilingual out here. It’s Chile, after all, not Whistler.
