Dormy Inn Hiroshima Annex Overview
Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of business hotels in Japan, and honestly? The Dormy Inn Hiroshima Annex surprised me in the best way possible. When you first walk up to it on Tanakamachi street, it doesn’t look like much from the outside – sort of blends into the neighborhood in that understated Japanese way. But here’s the thing: sometimes the most unassuming places turn out to be gems, and this is definitely one of those cases.
What really got me was how they nail the small stuff that actually matters when you’re traveling. The lobby has this calm, almost zen-like vibe that immediately makes your shoulders drop after a long day of sightseeing. Check-in was smooth (they had English-speaking staff, which – let’s be real – isn’t always a given), and I mean, the rooms are compact but thoughtfully designed. Everything has its place, you know? The bed was surprisingly comfortable for a business hotel, and the bathroom… well, it’s got one of those Japanese toilets that’ll spoil you for life. There’s also this little seating area by the window where you can actually spread out a map or your laptop without feeling cramped.
But honestly, what sets this place apart is the location – and I don’t mean that in some generic “convenient location” way that every hotel claims. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Hiroshima Station, which means easy access to the JR lines when you want to day-trip to Miyajima. More importantly though, you’re right in the thick of things but on a quieter side street, so you’re not dealing with the main road noise all night. I discovered this little ramen shop called Menya 7.5Hz just around the corner that locals actually go to – the kind of place you’d never find if you were staying out in some tourist district. The Peace Memorial Park is maybe a 15-minute walk, and there’s a Family Mart practically next door for those late-night snack runs or if you need to grab breakfast before an early train.
The one thing that really impressed me? They’ve got this communal bath area on the top floor – nothing fancy, but after walking around Hiroshima all day, soaking in hot water while looking out over the city lights was exactly what I needed. It’s open until pretty late too, so even if you get back from dinner around 9 or 10, you can still enjoy it. Oh, and they do this complimentary ramen service in the evenings, which sounds gimmicky but is actually pretty decent and perfect when you just want to eat something quick without venturing back out.
For what you pay – and trust me, hotel prices in Japan can get crazy, especially during cherry blossom season – this place delivers way more than you’d expect. It’s the kind of hotel where everything just works without any fuss, the staff genuinely seems to care about your stay, and you end up recommending it to other travelers you meet. Not flashy, not trying too hard, just solid and reliable with those little touches that show someone was actually thinking about what travelers need.

Fantastic onsen with sauna and a cooling pool. Nice addons like free ramen at night. very comfortable beds.
Great indoor and outdoor onsen, as well as a sauna - perfect after long days of walking! Free laundry machines at disposal, friendly staff and clean room
What could be improved: Not the most «charming» hotel, but that’s ok.
The very good onsen facilities. Good location, walking distance to the Memorial Park.
What could be improved: The double room was just too small. Non-english speaking reception made things a little harder.
The bath and breakfast were good, delicate Japanese style. Reception is helpful. All the staffs are with good attitude. Location is walking distance to Peace Memorial.
What could be improved: Room is small, and there is no view
Very close to major covered shopping streets and complementary services are appreciated.
What could be improved: Since this hotel to be more for busy businessman( to me), no view from 3 of our rooms.
Not my first stay in Dormy Inn, so I generally look at the usual "package" they offer and how they execute it. This hotel managed to do it - it has a great spa area with a very nice "local" touch, half-portion noodles at the evening, the rooms were...
Clean and very friendly and helpful staff.
What could be improved: Room had a weird layout.
The onsen, breakfast, free ramen & popsicles and yakult. Good location near the river for a run and convenient shuttle to the station. Eco-friendly What could be improved: But if a walk to the city center. Missing fruit popsicles available at other...

This hotel is clearly ran by people with a lot of common sense. Everything was just right.
