Dormy Inn PREMIUM Kushiro Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Dormy Inn PREMIUM Kushiro? Walking into the lobby, I actually felt like I was in some upscale Tokyo business hotel rather than this fishing port town in eastern Hokkaido. The place has this modern, polished vibe that honestly surprised me – I mean, Kushiro isn’t exactly known for luxury accommodations, but this spot really delivers on the “premium” part of its name.
The location on Kitaodori is pretty smart when you think about it. You’re literally a few minutes’ walk from Kushiro Station, which is clutch if you’re doing the train thing around Hokkaido, and it’s close enough to the Kushiro River that you can easily walk over to catch those famous sunset cruises through the marshlands. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night despite being in the city center – the rooms face away from the main traffic, so you’re not dealing with trucks rumbling by at 5 AM (trust me, that matters when you’re trying to sleep off a long day of exploring Akan National Park). The onsen on the top floor is where this place really shines though. After spending a day tramping around the Kushiro Wetlands or dealing with those brutal Hokkaido winds, soaking in those hot spring baths while looking out over the city lights… honestly, it’s exactly what you need. They’ve got both indoor and outdoor baths, and the water has this silky feel that leaves your skin feeling amazing – apparently it’s good for circulation, but I just know it felt incredible after being outside in the cold all day.
The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place – clean, modern, with those little touches that make you feel taken care of. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in Japan), and there’s enough space to spread out your gear without feeling cramped. Staff speaks decent English, which helps when you’re trying to figure out train schedules or get recommendations for where to try the local kaisendon. I’ll be honest, the breakfast buffet is pretty standard hotel fare – nothing spectacular but it gets the job done, and they do have some local seafood options that are worth trying. What really sold me on this place was how it felt like a proper retreat after long days exploring the area. Kushiro can be pretty rough around the edges, especially in winter, but coming back to this hotel each night felt like stepping into a different world. The 8.4 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Hokkaido, but for what it is and where it is, it really delivers.
Guest Reviews
Great location 15 minutes straight walk from JR Kushiro, near scenic spots, the river and the bridge.
Nice staff kindly kept our backpacks after checkout.
Clean spacious room.
The staff was helpful and the room was great, stayed in one with the tatami seating area.
What could be improved: Would be better if they allowed people with tattoos into the public bathing area.
Good location and facilities are well maintained
What could be improved: Staff are a bit of cool at reception.
The buffet breakfast was excellent! Not only they had fresh sashimi, they also offered Kushiro's signature dish, which is the robata. The grilled snail was soooo delicious!
location is great with parking options and restaurants nearby. every staff is awesome even though they couldn't communicate well in English but we managed. the aircon can be controlled which is good. the shower experience was great with good water...
Great location and comfortable room for two people. Loved the onsen on the top floor as well as the coffee in the lounge.
What could be improved: The pillow on the bed is so small and there is only one.
Clean with free coffee in the lobby. Room is typical of most Japanese hotels - small and functional. Staff were friendly.
What could be improved: Carpark lots are limited.
It’s a decent hotel at a great location
What could be improved: Nothing
Good location. Free coffee to go in lobby.
What could be improved: Crowded! But it was Saturday night, so I guess that!s expected. Elevators were so busy I took the stairs. But at least the stairs were open and usable.
It’s convenient location. Rooms were a decent size (considering rooms are usually small in Japan). Close to dining area- wharf and Washu Market What could be improved: Public bath area is usually crowded, hence decided to give it a miss despite...
