EM Wellness Kurashinohakko Lifestyle Resort Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to EM Wellness Kurashinohakko – the name alone is quite a mouthful, and it’s tucked away in Kitanakagusuku where you definitely need GPS to find it. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that make you work a little to get there. This isn’t your typical Okinawan beach resort, and that’s exactly what makes it interesting.
The whole concept revolves around this “EM lifestyle” philosophy – I mean, I’ll be honest, I was skeptical at first about the wellness angle since so many places just slap that label on anything these days. But they actually walk the walk here. The building itself has this clean, almost zen-like quality with lots of natural materials and surprisingly good soundproofing (which you’ll appreciate since Kishaba can get a bit busy during the day). What really caught my attention was their approach to food – they’re serious about fermentation and locally-sourced ingredients, not just throwing around buzzwords. The breakfast spread actually includes house-made fermented vegetables that, okay, might sound weird but taste way better than you’d think.
The rooms are solid 4-star quality without trying too hard to impress. Mine had this great little balcony overlooking the surrounding hills, and the beds are properly comfortable – none of that rock-hard Japanese hotel bed situation. Parking is easy and free, which is honestly a relief in this part of Okinawa where some places charge ridiculous fees. The staff speaks decent English and seems genuinely interested in explaining their wellness programs rather than just going through the motions. What I really appreciated was the quiet vibe – you’re about 20 minutes from the main tourist areas around Naha, so you get that peaceful feeling without being completely isolated. The nearby Zakimi Castle ruins are worth a quick visit if you’re into history, and there’s a decent convenience store about a 5-minute walk down the hill for anything you forgot to pack.
Look, it’s not perfect – the wifi can be spotty in some areas, and if you’re expecting a typical resort with a pool bar and beach access, you’ll be disappointed. This is more about slowing down and actually relaxing rather than cramming in activities. The 8.3 rating makes sense because it delivers on what it promises without any major letdowns. It’s the kind of place where you might find yourself actually reading that book you brought or having a proper conversation over dinner instead of just scrolling through your phone. If you’re looking for a different side of Okinawa and don’t mind being a bit off the beaten path, it’s worth considering – especially if you can snag one of their wellness packages that include the fermented food workshops.
Exclusive luxury healing resorts combine opulent amenities with therapeutic environments, offering personalized wellness journeys in some of the world’s most serene and beautiful locations.

I enjoyed pretty much all of them. The view from the hotel, food and the Spa. The hotel was so peaceful. I was happy for other visitors, too.
What could be improved: Nothing. But the location can be challenging without a car.
