Forsyth Lodge Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Forsyth Lodge in the village of Bija Kheri, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this five-star retreat tucked away in rural Madhya Pradesh. The property sits in what feels like the middle of nowhere — and that’s exactly the point. You’re surrounded by dense forest and farmland, with the nearest town of Sohāgpur feeling worlds away despite being just a short drive. The silence here is profound, broken only by birdsong and the occasional rustle of wildlife moving through the trees.
The Setting
This isn’t your typical luxury hotel experience, and I mean that in the best possible way. The lodge occupies a stunning position where you’re genuinely immersed in nature — I watched peacocks stroll across the grounds during my morning coffee and spotted deer grazing at dusk. The architecture blends seamlessly with the landscape, using local materials and traditional techniques that feel authentic rather than contrived. What struck me most was how the designers managed to create genuine luxury without disrupting the natural environment. You’ll find yourself slowing down almost immediately, which is exactly what this place is designed to do.
Accommodations
My room was spacious and thoughtfully appointed, with floor-to-ceiling windows that made me feel like I was sleeping in a treehouse — albeit a very sophisticated one. The interiors strike this perfect balance between rustic charm and modern comfort, with handcrafted furniture and textiles that clearly support local artisans. The bathrooms are particularly impressive, featuring natural stone and rainfall showers that somehow make you feel even more connected to the outdoors. Air conditioning works perfectly when you need it, but honestly, the natural ventilation and thick walls keep things surprisingly cool even during the day.
Dining and Activities
The restaurant focuses heavily on farm-to-table cuisine, and you can actually see some of the organic gardens where they source ingredients. The chef does wonderful things with local produce and traditional recipes — the dal and fresh vegetables were some of the best I’ve had anywhere in India. What I appreciated most was how meals felt unhurried and social, often shared with other guests around communal tables. The lodge organizes nature walks, bird watching expeditions, and visits to nearby villages, but you know what? Sometimes the best activity is simply sitting on your private terrace with a book and letting the forest sounds wash over you.
Why Guests Love It
Couples particularly seem drawn to this place, and I can see why — there’s something deeply romantic about being this removed from the world together. The staff understands the art of being helpful without being intrusive, and the spa treatments using traditional Ayurvedic techniques are genuinely restorative rather than just pampering. The lodge attracts people who want authentic luxury rather than flashy amenities, and the guest mix tends to be thoughtful travelers who appreciate good conversation over dinner. If you’re looking for a place to truly disconnect and recharge, Forsyth Lodge delivers that rare combination of comfort and genuine wilderness experience that’s increasingly hard to find.
