You know what hits you first at Fusaki Beach Resort? It’s not the lobby or the reception desk – it’s actually the sound of waves mixed with this gentle rustling from all the palm trees scattered around the property. I mean, they’ve got this place positioned right on Fusaki Beach (hence the name, obviously), and honestly, it feels more like stumbling into someone’s tropical hideaway than checking into a typical resort.

The thing about Ishigaki Island is that most visitors stick to the main town area, but Fusaki sits out in Arakawa, which is sort of this quieter stretch where you’re actually sharing the beach with local families on weekends rather than just other tourists. The resort itself has this interesting split personality – there are the main hotel rooms, which are perfectly fine and modern, but then there are these villa units that feel way more private and spacious. If you’re traveling with friends or family, honestly, the villas are worth the extra cost because you get your own little slice of paradise with actual cooking facilities (which comes in handy since the nearest convenience store is about a 10-minute walk down the road).

What I really appreciated was how they haven’t over-manicured everything – yeah, there’s a pool and the usual resort amenities, but they’ve left enough of the natural landscape intact that it doesn’t feel like you’re in some artificial bubble. The beach itself has this gorgeous coral sand that doesn’t get scorching hot under your feet, and the water stays pretty calm most of the time thanks to the reef offshore. Fair warning though: if you’re here during Golden Week or summer holidays, it gets busy fast, but visit in late fall or early spring and you’ll practically have the whole stretch to yourself. The staff genuinely seems to know the island well too – not just the touristy snorkeling spots everyone talks about, but they pointed me toward this little local ramen place about 15 minutes away that I never would have found otherwise. Parking’s easy, check-in was smooth, and the rooms stay surprisingly quiet even when the place is full – I think it’s because of how they’ve spaced everything out rather than cramming it all into one big building. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay if you can swing it.
