It’s tucked away in Shikishima, which is this quiet area of Shibukawa that feels worlds apart from the tourist crowds you’ll find closer to the hot springs. You know what struck me first? How incredibly quiet it is here. I mean, you can actually hear birds in the morning instead of traffic, which is something you don’t get at most hotels these days.

The “healthy” part of the name isn’t just marketing fluff either – they’ve really leaned into this wellness concept without making it feel forced or pretentious. The rooms have this clean, minimalist vibe that somehow manages to be calming rather than sterile. I was particularly impressed with their attention to air quality (there’s some kind of purification system going on), and the bedding feels like they put real thought into it. The staff seemed genuinely knowledgeable about the local hiking trails around Mount Akagi, which is only about fifteen minutes away by car. They actually drew me a little map showing the less crowded paths, which ended up being way more useful than anything I found online.

What really sets this place apart though is its location – you’re close enough to Shibukawa’s main attractions without dealing with the chaos. The Ikaho hot springs are maybe twenty minutes by car, but honestly, some of the best onsen experiences are the smaller, family-run places even closer by that the hotel staff will point you toward if you ask. Parking is free and plentiful, which might sound boring but trust me, you’ll appreciate it when you’re exploring the area. The breakfast spread leans heavily into local ingredients – lots of fresh vegetables and regional specialties that change with the seasons. I stayed in late spring and they had these amazing mountain vegetables I’d never tried before. One small thing that bugged me was the Wi-Fi could be spotty in some rooms, but honestly, that might be a blessing in disguise if you’re trying to disconnect. The 8.1 rating feels about right – it’s not luxury in the traditional sense, but there’s something genuinely refreshing about a place that delivers on its promise of being a healthy retreat without all the wellness industry nonsense.
