You know, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the Grand Palace Hotel & Spa on Killyur Falls Road – honestly, the name sounds a bit grandiose for what’s essentially a solid 3-star spot tucked into Yercaud’s hills. But here’s the thing: sometimes these places surprise you in the best way possible.

The location is actually pretty clever once you get oriented. You’re close enough to the main Yercaud action that you can easily walk to the lake or grab dinner at one of those local spots that do amazing South Indian breakfast spreads, but far enough up Killyur Falls Road that you escape most of the weekend tourist chaos. I mean, Yercaud gets absolutely packed during peak season – families from Salem and Chennai descending en masse – but this place feels tucked away from all that. The road itself can be a bit tricky if you’re driving up at night (those hill curves are no joke), but during the day you get these glimpses of the valley that make the slightly winding approach worth it. What I really appreciated was how the staff actually seemed to know the area – not just the standard tourist spots, but they pointed me toward this little spice garden walk that I never would’ve found otherwise, and gave me proper timing for when Killyur Falls would have decent water flow.

The rooms are comfortable without trying too hard to be fancy – clean linens, hot water that actually works (which isn’t always a given in hill stations, let’s be honest), and these big windows that let in the morning light beautifully. The spa part lives up to its name better than I expected; they do this Ayurvedic massage thing that uses local herbs, and while I’m usually skeptical of hotel spa treatments, this one left me genuinely relaxed. The restaurant serves decent food – nothing that’ll blow your mind, but solid South Indian fare and some North Indian options that don’t feel like afterthoughts. Breakfast was particularly good, with fresh fruit that actually tastes like it was picked recently and filter coffee strong enough to wake you up properly for a day of exploring. The 7.7 rating feels about right – it’s not going to win any luxury awards, but it delivers on what it promises without the inflated prices you get at some of the more “premium” spots in town. If you’re looking for a place that feels more like a comfortable base camp than a destination in itself, and you want to experience Yercaud without fighting crowds every time you step outside, this works really well.
