GRIDS PREMIUM HOTEL OTARU Overview
You know what struck me first about GRIDS PREMIUM HOTEL OTARU? The way they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between modern comfort and actually feeling connected to Otaru’s character. I mean, you’re literally in the Inaho district – which honestly, most tourists zip right through on their way to the canal area without realizing they’re missing something good.
The hotel itself feels refreshingly unpretentious for a 4-star place. When I walked into the lobby, there wasn’t that sterile luxury hotel vibe that makes you feel like you need to whisper. Instead, it’s got this clean, contemporary thing going on that somehow doesn’t clash with the fact that you’re staying in a city where half the charm comes from those old merchant warehouses down by the water. The rooms are smart without being flashy – and honestly, after spending days walking around Otaru’s hilly streets (your calves will know what I’m talking about), you’ll appreciate that the beds are actually comfortable, not just Instagram-pretty. The 8.7 rating makes sense once you’re there for a night or two.
Here’s what I really appreciated though – the location gives you options. You’re close enough to walk to Otaru Canal in about ten minutes when you want those classic sunset shots, but you’re also positioned where you can easily hit up the morning market near JR Otaru Station without fighting tourist crowds at 7 AM. Plus, and this might sound random, but the neighborhood around the hotel has some legitimate local spots for dinner. There’s this little izakaya maybe two blocks away where the owner actually remembered my face by the third night – you know, the kind of place where salary workers stop by after the train ride from Sapporo. The hotel staff seemed to get that most guests want to explore beyond the obvious tourist circuit, which was refreshing. They pointed me toward the Temiya Line walking path, which honestly turned out to be one of those unexpectedly great discoveries you can’t really Google your way into. Check-in was smooth, none of that “let me explain seventeen amenities you’ll never use” routine, and the front desk crew spoke solid English without making it feel like a performance. One small thing – if you’re driving, parking can get tight during peak season (summer and winter illumination time), so maybe sort that out when you book rather than hoping for the best.

Great facility, nice onsen and cute hotel. Breakfast is prefect.
What could be improved: Have to pay for parking
Really nice place. New room with nice breakfast.
Excellent hotel. New modern rooms with lots of space ! Close proximity to the train station and canals. Staff are super friendly and the breakfast was good. Could do with some more western options. How ever this is a very minor gripe.
A reasonable to walk down to the canal and the specialty shopping area Enjoyed looking through the Brewery Would love to have seen the area in good weather as it was snowing and by evening, some parts quite icy. What could be improved: Location was...
Onsen is excellent, Breakfast with different rotating menu items was great - better coffee would be nice. The larger rooms with separate toilet are perfect for two skiers, standard rooms would be more of a challenge. A retractable clothes line in...

The family room was spacious and had a bathtub for the children, they each got a kids amenities pack and a good sized single bed each and we still had space to move around. The staff were very helpful and friendly and we had an excellent view...
